Insights into Sales Outsourcing Services Among Japanese Businesses: A Survey Analysis

In a newly conducted survey by Will Group, 521 sales professionals aged between 20 and 59 gave their perspectives on sales outsourcing services. The survey, held from June 6 to June 10, 2025, highlights significant trends and sentiments around sales resources in Japan's corporate landscape.

Key Findings

1. Resource Deficit Perception

A striking 65.3% of respondents indicated that they feel their sales resources are insufficient. Specifically, 22.7% reported they are 'significantly lacking' and 42.6% stated they are 'somewhat lacking'. This signals a pressing concern among sales representatives regarding their capacity to achieve targets effectively.

When asked about challenges faced within their current sales structure, 38.0% cited a shortage of sales personnel as the most pressing issue. Another 30.0% expressed that there are no significant problems, while 24.8% pointed out that their sales strategies are not well-organized. Alarmingly, nearly 40% of respondents are anxious about the difficulty in securing talented personnel and the risk of employee turnover among their sales teams.

2. Low Utilization of Sales Outsourcing Services

Only 16.4% of surveyed individuals have expressed that they either currently use or have previously utilized sales outsourcing services. Breaking it down, 8.1% are currently using such services, while 8.3% have tried them in the past. This indicates that many companies are still unaware of the potential benefits that sales outsourcing can bring. Even more concerning, 34.9% of participants reported they have neither considered nor used these services, and 27.6% admitted unfamiliarity with sales outsourcing altogether.

3. Utilization Trends by Job Position

Interestingly, the inclination to employ sales outsourcing services significantly correlates with job positions. Among executive-level participants, 28.6% expressed a strong desire to utilize these services, but the same percentage also reported having no interest in them. This split indicates a dichotomy in perceptions among decision-makers. As one rises through the ranks, there appears to be a greater interest in sales outsourcing, suggesting that increased understanding might broaden market adoption in the future.

Conclusion

This survey highlights a critical awareness among businesses regarding a lack of sales resources, even as there remains a significant underutilization of sales outsourcing services. The growing interest from executives hints at a possible trend towards the adoption of these services as a strategy to tackle existing sales challenges.
