Professional Background and Experience
Prior to his role at TMS International, Mr. Bassett distinguished himself through a remarkable career with the
U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). His journey began in
2004 as a member of the Attorney General's Honors Program, where he focused on commercial litigation. Shortly thereafter, he transitioned to the DOJ's newly established
National Security Division in
2006, specializing in national security law and progressing to several senior positions, including Deputy Unit Chief of both the Counterterrorism and Counterintelligence Units. Throughout his time, he provided crucial legal advice to senior DOJ leadership and federal agencies regarding national security operations.
Mr. Bassett's expertise enabled him to develop compliance strategies, lead regulatory risk mitigation efforts, and deliver extensive training within the intelligence and law enforcement community. His experience extended internationally; he served in critical overseas roles, including as the
Justice Attaché in Baghdad, Iraq, and as Deputy Justice Attaché in Kabul, Afghanistan, demonstrating both leadership and commitment to duty.
Education and Military Service
A graduate of
Syracuse University with a law degree, Bassett also holds a bachelor's degree from
Portland State University. His foundational skills stem from his military service in the
U.S. Army, where he served as a non-commissioned officer and concluded his service as a Gunnery Sergeant. This diverse background has equipped him with a unique perspective and skillset beneficial for his role at TMS.
