Valeo Launches Cutting-Edge Manufacturing Facility in McAllen to Shape Future Automotive Innovations

Today marks a significant step forward for the automotive industry as Valeo, a global frontrunner in automotive technology, has ceremoniously initiated the construction of a cutting-edge manufacturing facility in McAllen, Texas. With an ambitious investment of $225 million spread over the next five years, this new facility will encompass an impressive 337,000 square feet and is expected to generate up to 500 job opportunities in the locality. Production at this advanced facility is slated to commence in late 2027.

This monumental undertaking aligns seamlessly with Valeo's strategic vision, dubbed "Elevate 2028," which is focused on driving the automotive industry's transformation toward innovative software-defined vehicles. At the heart of Valeo McAllen will be the production of General Motors' central compute unit, a sophisticated liquid-cooled system powered by advanced processors. These units will be tasked with processing large volumes of data received from various sensors and systems, thereby controlling essential vehicle functions.

Kristin Toth, Purchasing Executive Director at General Motors, emphasized the importance of software-defined vehicle architecture, stating, "A software-defined vehicle architecture is a key enabler to dramatically improve the customer experience through faster connectivity, richer entertainment options, and more frequent updates." This plant will play a critical role in rolling out GM's next-generation electrical architecture, expected to significantly enhance user experiences and vehicle performance.

Jeffrey Shay, President of Valeo North America, expressed pride in the company’s commitment to fostering new technologies that pave the way for the next generation of software-defined vehicles. He stated, "This significant investment illustrates our dedication to advancing automotive technology in conjunction with General Motors in Texas." Valeo’s contributions are positioned to make mobility not just safer, but also more sustainable and accessible, thereby shaping the automotive landscape for tomorrow.

Valeo stands as a global technology powerhouse, devoted to creating innovative solutions for automotive manufacturers worldwide. Operated under distinct divisions including POWER, BRAIN, and LIGHT, alongside Valeo Service for aftermarket services, the company aims to facilitate safer, greener, and more efficient mobility solutions. As part of its strategic objectives, Valeo seeks to capitalize on its extensive global industrial presence and technological prowess, driving advancements in electrification, driver assistance systems, advanced lighting, and integrated software solutions to enhance vehicle value.
