Connecting Cities and Regions: Introducing Nine Local Facilitators in Shinshu's Hometown LIFE Seminar

Connecting Cities and Regions

The Hometown LIFE Seminar in Shinshu

The Hometown LIFE Seminar, known as 'Sato Seminar,' is a unique and practical program initiated by Hue-ish Co., Ltd., based in Shinjuku, Tokyo. This initiative is part of the 'Shinshu Connecting Stories Project' for the fiscal year 2025, which dives into innovative ways of interacting with communities beyond tourism or relocation. Over three months, participants engage with key figures in various regions through online interviews, gaining insights into their life stories and values. This interaction serves as an 'ambassador' experience for participants, challenging their perspectives and prompting them to reconsider their choices and values.

The Local Facilitators

Nine local facilitators have been selected for the inaugural phase of the seminar. These individuals are actively engaged in utilizing regional resources, cultural activities, and community development in their respective fields. Meeting these facilitators opens doors to immense possibilities, as they are pioneers shaping the future of their communities. Engaging with their narratives is certain to influence participants' own values and choices.

Meet the Local Facilitators

1. Takumi Shirane | Nebamura
Born in 2000 and hailing from Kumagaya, Saitama, Takumi is deeply involved in community revitalization. After creating a share bookstore in 2021 from a vacant house, he has since moved to Nebamura, where he establishes a community hub through former ryokan, Shiraneba.

2. Kaikai Sakaguchi | Nebamura

3. Osamu Komasasa | Nebamura
With a wealth of experience in various educational fields, Osamu plans to promote local learning in Nebamura beginning in 2024. Here, he emphasizes self-directed learning and awareness of future pathways.

4. Mana Yamagiwa | Suzaka and Hakuba
As an art project director, Mana has developed participatory programs for major museums before relocating to Nagano in 2023. She leads projects that merge education and art, inspired by the beautiful local environment.

Returning to Nagano after a career in civil engineering in Tokyo, Yohei focuses on the significance of daily life through his activities centered around specialty coffee, helping others find their place and motivation.

After a diverse career in electronics and advertising, Masayuki is now known for organizing craft beer and natural wine festivals, while also providing event direction and production for clients.

7. Mayu Kondo | Nakano
Initially a construction designer, Mayu shifted to the restaurant industry during the pandemic and is now pursuing opportunities to establish her café while managing vacant house consultations in Nakano.

8. Yurina Shima | Azumino
After working in fashion in Tokyo, Yurina has returned to her roots in Azumino to create floral headpieces and facilitate events focused on connection among community members.
