On July 22, 2026, Nikka Home’s Kanto branch held a woodworking workshop in Saitama City for elementary school students. This initiative is part of their ongoing career education program called "Sumai no Kyoushitsu" aimed at teaching children about construction, housing, and the environment. The goal is to foster independent thinking and action among the participants.

Embracing the DIY Spirit

The central theme of the workshop was "self-efficacy." The abbreviation DIY stands for "Do It Yourself," representing the philosophy that encourages individuals to take initiative and tackle challenges independently. Nikka Home designed this educational program to allow children to experience the joy of thinking, challenging themselves, and successfully completing projects. The focus was not merely on finishing a product but on valuing the journey of creation itself.

Real Woodworking Experience

Five dedicated staff members from Nikka Home’s Saitama area served as instructors. The children, some of whom were interacting with tools for the first time, carefully cut wooden blocks with handsaws and sanded them to create personalized DIY dice. Each side of the dice featured words that expressed the students' thoughts on what they could do and what they wished to challenge themselves with. Despite some initial hesitation with the tools, the supportive staff ensured a safe and engaging environment, allowing the young creators to enjoy the process of making.
