Collaboration T-Shirt Raises Awareness About Drug Abuse Prevention for Youth

On June 26, a new collaboration t-shirt will be released to promote drug abuse prevention among youth. This initiative, a partnership between the Public Interest Foundation for Drug and Stimulant Abuse Prevention and the innovative brand 'REBIRTH PROJECT' by Social Plastik, aims to address critical social issues through creative solutions.

For nearly four decades, the foundation has played a pivotal role in combating drug abuse in Japan. The t-shirt, named 'DO? BE? TEE', is designed under the slogan "No Drugs: Absolutely Not! – Value Your Loved Self," and seeks to spark conversations among young people about cannabis and drug use.

With a rise in cannabis-related arrests among individuals in their 20s and 30s, this project emphasizes the importance of educating youth on the risks associated with drug use. The t-shirt features the foundation's mascot, 'No Drugs: Absolutely Not!', alongside the REBIRTH PROJECT logo on the front, while the back showcases the powerful phrase, "NO GREED NO NEED FOR WEED," conveying a clear, compelling message against drug dependency.

Moreover, the design includes a creative twist on the term 'doobie', a slang word for marijuana, turning it into a provocative question: "What will you do? (DO?)" and "What do you want to be? (BE?)" This encourages young people to reflect on their choices while reinforcing the vital philosophy that drug misuse is detrimental.

Profits from the sale of these shirts will support the foundation's ongoing initiatives, including a fundraising campaign for the United Nations that has been running for over 30 years in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and regional governments. Through this campaign, funds have been allocated to support NGOs promoting healthy lifestyles free from drug abuse in developing countries. To date, the foundation has backed a total of 790 projects in 659 countries and regions.

Social Plastik's representative, Yamato Okama, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "We believe in the power of fashion to start silent dialogues with society by conveying messages through the clothing we wear. As cannabis abuse is on the rise among those in their twenties and thirties, it is crucial for us to deliver these preventive messages through our brand. Asking questions allows us to look back on our past and contemplate the future."

In response, a representative from the foundation highlighted the collaborative approach taken in developing the shirt's messaging, conveying a strong desire for this initiative to prompt young people to reflect collectively on drug abuse.

Looking ahead, the foundation remains committed to creating a safe, drug-free society through innovative partnerships, continuing to promote awareness activities aimed at building a future where drug misuse is nonexistent.
