Envision Energy Fuels Growth in Southeast Europe's Wind Energy Market with Major North Macedonian Project
Envision Energy Strengthens Wind Market in Southeast Europe
Envision Energy, a global leader in green technology, has made a pivotal move in the wind energy sector of Southeast Europe. The company recently finalized the financial closure for the first phase of the Štip wind farm project in North Macedonia. This project boasts a capacity of 131.25 MW and represents the largest wind initiative in the country to date, developed in partnership with Alcazar Energy Partners, an independent infrastructure fund manager.
The Štip project is planned in three phases, with an expected total capacity of up to 396 MW upon completion. This significant increase will more than quadruple North Macedonia's current installed wind energy capacity and play a vital role in the country's energy transformation. It aims to support the transition from coal-based energy generation to a more resilient and sustainable energy system.
Envision Energy, known globally for its solid experience and proven technology in large-scale onshore wind farms, is providing 21 EN182 turbines for this project, each generating 6.25 MW. The EN182 model features a hub height of 120 meters, making it one of the largest onshore wind turbines installed in Europe. This design not only enhances energy yield but also significantly improves project efficiency.
The project is backed by a long-term power purchase agreement with an internationally rated investment company and will operate solely on a private off-take basis. This commercially focused structure marks a major milestone in attracting investments in renewable energy across Southeast Europe. It exemplifies how advanced technology and robust business frameworks can facilitate large-scale adoption of clean energy.
Following the financial closure, Envision's wind technology has been recognized as bankable by key financial institutions including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), which focuses on the private sector as part of the World Bank Group. The endorsement from leading international financial institutions further solidifies Envision's technological acceptance in the banking domain, positioning the company as a trustworthy partner for extensive renewable energy investments across Europe.
Kane Xu, Senior Vice President and President of Envision's International Product Line, states, "The Štip project marks a significant milestone for Envision in Europe, uniting proven wind technology with commercial scale and long-term value for the energy system. This project not only expands capacity but also illustrates how modern wind energy can bolster energy resilience, enhance system competitiveness, and support broader economic transformation. Through projects like Štip, Envision is helping shape the energy systems of the future in regions where renewable energy forms the foundation of a more resilient and competitive energy economy."
Furthermore, Daniel Lancha, a partner at Alcazar Energy Partners, highlighted, "The Štip wind farm reflects our long-term commitment to North Macedonia and our confidence in its potential in renewable energy. As the project moves into the construction phase, we are proud to turn our shared vision into clean, affordable electricity, create new jobs, and deliver lasting economic value for local communities. This project demonstrates what can be achieved through strong partnerships and sets an important benchmark for renewable energy development across the wider region."
In conclusion, Envision Energy’s advancement into North Macedonia’s wind energy landscape signifies a hopeful shift towards greener energy solutions in Southeast Europe. With ongoing efforts to enhance and expand renewable infrastructure, the region is well on its way to achieving greater energy independence and sustainability.
