Huawei Introduces LUTERRA®: A Leap Towards Energy Innovation
On June 26, 2026, at the Intersolar Europe 2026 exhibition, Huawei hosted the innovative
2026 Huawei FusionSolar Strategy & New Product Launch themed “Making the Most of Every Ray.” At the event, Huawei revealed its strategic rebranding from LUNA to
LUTERRA®, launching a transformative smart string grid-forming platform dedicated to Energy Storage Systems (ESS) aimed at enhancing stability within energy networks.
The Evolution of Energy Storage Systems
Steven Zhou, the President of the Smart PV & ESS Product Line at Huawei Digital Power, opened with a keynote titled “Powering the Future with Smart Grids and Intelligent Technologies.” Zhou emphasized the urgent need for future photovoltaic and energy storage systems to evolve into vital components that support power grids. He stated, “Flexibility, contribution to network formation, and intelligence will become essential.” Huawei has consistently prioritized research in power electronics and digital technologies, pledged ongoing innovation, and aimed to enhance its offerings in smart photovoltaic systems and ESS. The LUTERRA® platform promises to deliver maximum benefits while bolstering grid stability amidst a high share of renewable energy integration.
Setting New Industry Standards
The introduction of LUTERRA® marks a significant advancement in energy storage technology, featuring
five technological breakthroughs that set new benchmarks in the field:
1.
Pioneering Architecture: The smart string architecture operating at 1000 V AC enhances battery consistency, alongside advanced SiC modules that improve conversion efficiency significantly.
2.
Streamlined Installation: The innovative architecture with busbars simplifies installation, capacity expansion, and wiring connections, facilitating faster delivery and optimizing land use.
3.
Efficient Cooling: This innovative intelligent distributed cooling system increases heat dissipation area by 100%, which reduces fan speeds and noise levels by roughly 40%.
4.
Synchronizing Network Formation: Individual devices can synchronize grid formation for millions of devices, automatically adapting to changes in network strength, enhancing overall network robustness.
5.
Precision Digital Twin Technology: Leveraging cutting-edge digital methodologies and artificial intelligence, the LUTERRA® platform provides accurate predictions regarding State of Energy (SOE) and State of Power (SOP), offering reliable digital support for electricity trading and maximizing revenue over the entire lifecycle of the system.
Four Core Values Driving LUTERRA®
Huawei envisions LUTERRA® as more than a product; it encapsulates four core values critical for shaping the future of energy transition:
- - Optimal Investment: Through rapid deployment and reduced costs, such as a 30% shorter implementation time for a 1 GWh ESS, lower operational costs positioning LUTERRA® as an investment powerhouse.
- - Enhanced Returns: Continuous improvements in Reliability, Availability, Consistency, and Accuracy (RTE) lead to higher energy throughput throughout the system’s lifecycle, generating increased revenues.
- - Grid-Level Contribution: Each power plant’s unique capability to contribute to network stability—by managing faults and frequency regulation—extends profitable prospects.
- - Safety Compliance: Utilizing Huawei's C2G safety technology ensures adherence to stringent safety norms, positioning LUTERRA® as a reliable choice for ESS with a risk assessment of less than 1 in a million.
Introducing the LUTERRA S2 for Residential Use
Additionally, Huawei announced the launch of the
LUTERRA S2 Sun Power system, targeted towards residential photovoltaic applications and energy storage needs. The president of the residential PV systems division emphasized, “Innovation is limitless.” This new solution is designed to cater to over
