Exploring Employee Happiness in Capital Management: A Startup Perspective

The Next Step in Capital Management: Employee Happiness

In the rapidly changing landscape of business, the focus is shifting towards the well-being of employees, particularly in startup environments. The venture community from Waseda University will host an insightful talk event and workshop on June 25, 2025, at H¹O Nihonbashi Kayabacho, under the theme "Considering the Happiness of Those Working in Startups and Ventures."

Context of the Event: Why Employee Happiness Now?

Keiko Tsuda, the representative of Happiness Insight LLC, is leading this initiative amid growing evidence from global surveys that show a clear connection between employee well-being and corporate productivity. Recent studies have revealed that Japanese firms are increasingly recognizing the positive correlation between employee happiness and business performance. Enhancing productivity and raising salaries are now considered vital mandates for businesses in the era of sustainability investment.

For startups and venture firms aiming for rapid growth, attracting and retaining talented individuals is a crucial challenge that can determine business success. As these companies expand, they often encounter organizational hurdles such as the "30-person barrier" and the "50-person barrier," along with issues like decreased engagement and workplace harassment. These challenges have become significant concerns for many business leaders.

The Venture Tomonkai believes that startups, which are responsible for shaping the future industry, must prioritize employee happiness. By fostering environments where each individual can shine, these companies can enhance their corporate value and contribute to the overall development of the Japanese economy. To address these pressing challenges, the event intends to gather entrepreneurs from diverse fields to explore potential solutions.

Three Key Features of the Event

1. Real Experiences Shared by Entrepreneurs
The discussions will draw from the real-life challenges faced by the speakers, including balancing parenthood during the pandemic and learning from business failures. Participants will hear valuable insights and solutions shaped by authentic experiences, steering away from theoretical discussions.

2. Program Combining Learning and Experience
Alongside sessions covering definitions of well-being and measures against workplace harassment, participants will engage in a "DEI Training through Puzzle Solving" experience. This interactive approach is designed to make learning enjoyable while ensuring that attendees leave with actionable insights to implement in their companies.

3. Cross-Disciplinary Discussions Among Experts
Entrepreneurs with expertise in various fields such as employee happiness, AI task management, entrepreneurial education, and DEI training will converge to discuss the common theme of "employee happiness." This diverse representation will facilitate an in-depth approach to solving complex organizational challenges.

Organizer's Comments

Naomichi Tozuka, Secretary General of the Venture Tomonkai, emphasizes the crucial role of people in driving business growth. This event marks the beginning of a series of discussions centered around "People and Organizations," aiming to contribute to the advancement of Japan's startup ecosystem. The community welcomes many participants to join in and explore the future of work together.
