Atelier DENSAN: Celebrating Japanese Craftsmanship

In an exciting initiative aimed at promoting Japan’s exquisite traditional crafts, Atelier DENSAN will launch pop-up stores in three major global cities: London, Taipei, and Brussels, beginning September 2026. This series of events is organized by the Japan Traditional Craft Industry Promotion Association, based in Tokyo, which aims to provide a platform for these cultural treasures to reach an international audience.

The project intends to showcase prominent traditional crafts designated by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, ensuring that the unique beauty and skill involved in Japanese craftsmanship are seen and appreciated worldwide. With demand for authentic craftsmanship rising both domestically and internationally, Atelier DENSAN seeks to not only familiarize foreign audiences with Japan’s cultural heritage but also conduct market testing to assess global receptiveness.

At wagumi in London, visitors will immerse themselves in a rich array of traditional crafts, including carefully made Miyagi traditional kokeshi dolls, which embody Japan’s artistic history.

Taipei

In Taipei, CRAFT TOKYO will feature a selection of unique textiles, such as the elegant Ojiya Chijimi, known for its stylish weaving patterns that encapsulate Japanese aesthetics.

Brussels

• - Venue: AOI x Kyoto Sélections
• - Dates: October 10 – November 28, 2026
• - Address: Rue Antoine Dansaert 28, 1000 Brussels, Belgium

Brussels will host a showcase at AOI x Kyoto Sélections, displaying exquisite lacquer ware and ceramics that reflect the timeless beauty of Japanese design.

About the Organizers

The Japan Traditional Craft Industry Promotion Association was established in 1975 with support from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, aiming to enhance and connect Japan's traditional craft sector with consumers. The association currently recognizes 244 distinct items classified as traditional crafts, which boast the use of age-old techniques and materials. Moreover, the association runs the “Traditional Craft Aoyama Square” located in Aoyama, Tokyo, dedicated to the promotion of traditional crafts and providing a hub for artisans and consumers to connect.
