Castillo Engineering Selected for Six New Utility-Scale Solar Projects in Illinois

Castillo Engineering to Support Six Utility-Scale Solar Projects

Castillo Engineering has been appointed to provide comprehensive engineering services for six new utility-scale solar installations in Illinois, undertaken by Recon Corporation. This project, which is set in various locations such as Manteno, Elburn, and Franklin Grove, showcases a commitment to utilizing both agricultural and conservation-sensitive land effectively.

Comprehensive Engineering Approach

The services rendered by Castillo encompass a full range of civil and electrical engineering solutions tailored for each project site. These services include:
  • - Power system and ampacity studies
  • - Structural and electrical calculations
  • - Equipment pad design
  • - Relay settings
  • - PVsyst modeling

This assignment builds upon a long-standing collaboration between Castillo Engineering and Recon Corporation, underscoring both companies' shared values of technical precision and dependable execution in solar infrastructure development.

According to Christopher Castillo, CEO of Castillo Engineering, "We are thrilled to support this new phase of projects after our successful collaboration on previous ventures. The trust established between our teams reflects the consistent quality and adaptability we bring to complex, multi-site portfolios."

Engineering Challenges Overcome

Some project sites present significant challenges. For instance, certain locations must navigate strict regulations due to the presence of central gas pipelines, which only allow two permitted conduit crossings. Castillo Engineering has worked diligently within these guidelines to create optimized layouts that also ensure safety and compliance with local regulations.

The Franklin Grove site in particular requires extra precaution due to its proximity to delicate wetlands. Castillo has made strategic adjustments, repositioning utility poles to safeguard the wetlands while also upholding National Electric Code (NEC) and National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) compliance.

Jackson Maxwell, Recon Corporation's project manager for the Franklin Grove initiative, stated, "This new portfolio highlights the ongoing cooperation between our two firms. Castillo has consistently delivered high-quality engineering solutions, even under stringent constraints and varied site conditions, establishing them as one of our most reliable partners."

Strategic Growth in Solar Sector

As these projects progress, they align seamlessly with Castillo Engineering's strategy to bolster its footprint within the MISO utility-scale solar market, all while remaining committed to client-driven growth.
