TONICHI's Participation in the Tokyo International Gift Show 2025
From September 3rd to 5th, 2025, TONICHI, one of the world's largest newspaper printing companies based in Koto, Tokyo, will participate in the "100th Tokyo International Gift Show Autumn 2025" held at Tokyo Big Sight. This event marks a significant opportunity for the company to unveil the latest lineup of its unique design newspaper, "Tsutsumu." Visitors can also consult with experts about the OEM for wrapping materials. We warmly welcome everyone to our booth!
What is 'Tsutsumu'?
"Tsutsumu" is not just an ordinary wrapping paper; it's an eco-friendly product made from upcycled paper that would otherwise go to waste during the newspaper printing process. Since its launch in 2024, Tsutsumu has undergone continuous improvement based on customer feedback, resulting in a complete design and packaging overhaul. With the upcoming gift-giving seasons—Halloween, Christmas, New Year, Valentine's Day, and graduation—we are excited to introduce designs that cater directly to market needs. Featuring a unique texture inherent to newspaper, each product tells a story while offering a delightful aesthetic that enhances any gift-giving scenario.
(Upcycling involves adding value to a product that would usually be discarded, transforming it into something more valuable through creativity and design.)
Characteristics of 'Tsutsumu'
A Passionate Creation from a Newspaper Printing Company
Founded in 1952, TONICHI has built its reputation on newspaper printing, currently managing the print for over 90 different publications. While wrapping papers made from both Western and Japanese papers are plentiful, the use of newspaper as a material for wrapping paper adds a unique twist—unlocking new possibilities in the stationery market. As digitization leads to a decline in newspaper subscriptions, Tsutsumu was developed with a vision: to cultivate an affection for newspapers and ensure they remain a cherished part of daily life.
Environmentally Friendly Materials
Tsutsumu embodies sustainability by utilizing leftover paper generated in the newspaper printing process, making it an eco-conscious upcycled product. It offers the warmth and nuance that only newspaper can provide, appealing to environmentally aware consumers.
Captivating Design Variations
Despite its grayish newspaper base, Tsutsumu's designs are visually stunning, embracing themes that evoke joy and excitement. This product line includes classic patterns like stripes and polka dots, along with seasonal motifs and quirky illustrations such as bread, vegetables, and even pandas. Beyond traditional wrapping uses, Tsutsumu holds potential for craft projects and paper goods.
