Granite's Inaugural 'Granite Gives Pink' Fundraiser Raises $500,000 for Breast Cancer Research

Granite Telecommunications Raises $500,000 for Breast Cancer Research

Granite Telecommunications successfully hosted its inaugural "Granite Gives Pink" fundraiser, generating a remarkable $500,000 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). The event took place at the company’s headquarters in Quincy, Massachusetts, where over 800 employees participated by wearing pink to symbolize their support for breast cancer research. Each employee's participation triggered a $500 donation to the BCRF, with additional funds raised through various raffles held throughout the day.

The day was filled with activities aimed at fostering awareness, education, and community involvement. Granite's CEO, Rob Hale, emphasized the importance of funding cancer research, stating, "The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is the world's leading private funder of breast cancer research, and its work is changing—and saving—lives every day. At Granite, we believe the best way to fight cancer is to fund the science that can stop it."

The event highlighted Granite’s commitment to making a difference while bringing employees together for a worthy cause. A heartfelt town hall meeting featured not just Granite leaders but also survivors and advocates from BCRF, including a fireside chat between Granite’s Chief People Officer, Sana Shiekh, and BCRF leaders. This open dialogue allowed for sharing inspiring stories and highlighting the necessity of continued research and funding.

"Granite Gives Pink is more than a fundraiser — it is a reflection of who we are," expressed Shiekh. The long-standing culture of philanthropy at Granite has been visible through previous initiatives, including their celebrated "Saving by Shaving," which focused on pediatric cancer research and raised $58.5 million over 12 years.

The company has donated over $400 million to various charitable causes since its inception, positioning itself as one of the most philanthropic corporations in Massachusetts. Hale recognized not only the financial contributions but the spirit of solidarity and compassion that pervaded the day, noting that when people come together for a common cause, they can create substantial change.

As Granite transitions into this new initiative, the possibilities for furthering impact on critical health issues stand robust. With the promise of continued support for BCRF, Granite demonstrates how corporate involvement can lead to real-world benefits, particularly in life-threatening circumstances like breast cancer.
