Chiba University Collaborates with OPQRST on AI Medical Education Initiative

Chiba University and OPQRST's Groundbreaking Research

In an exciting development for medical education, OPQRST Corporation, based in Shibuya, Tokyo, has secured funding through the Chiba Bank's "Chiba Gin Research and Development Grant Program 2025" for a collaborative study with Chiba University Hospital's Department of General Medicine. This study, titled "Exploring Factors that Improve Clinical Vignettes and Dialogue Outputs with Large Language Models and Making Them Open Access," aims to enhance the training resources available to medical students and practitioners.

Background and Objectives of the Research

Effective communication between doctors and patients—especially during diagnostic interviews—is integral to the education of healthcare providers. However, developing high-quality dialogue content that mirrors diverse case studies and patient experiences poses a significant challenge for medical professionals. OPQRST seeks to address this challenge through its advanced AI-driven patient interview simulation system, aptly named "OPQRST."

This collaborative research will harness the capabilities of large language models (LLMs), aiming to generate realistic clinical vignettes and simulated doctor-patient dialogues. By automatically creating diverse and high-quality training scenarios, healthcare professionals will gain valuable practice opportunities, allowing them to improve their diagnostic and communication skills in a more practical environment.

Significance of the Grant Acceptance and Future Prospects

The acceptance of this research project signals the high value and significance of OPQRST's ongoing research efforts. The Chiba Gin Research and Development Grant Program is designed to support innovative projects in partnership with universities and research institutions, and OPQRST is honored to receive this recognition and support. We extend our heartfelt gratitude for this backing.

This grant will serve as a critical impetus for further accelerating our research and development endeavors, with the following social contributions in mind:

1. Providing High-Quality Medical Education: By facilitating conversations with synthetic patients created by AI, we aim to develop an environment for medical students and young doctors where practical learning becomes more immersive, akin to shadowing experienced practitioners in real consultation settings.

2. Contributing to Domestic LLM Research: The outcomes of this study, including both clinical vignettes and dialogues, will be made available in open platforms like GitHub to support advancements in medical AI research in the Japanese language.

3. Promoting Societal Implementation: The technology developed through this research can be applied not only within OPQRST's framework but also potentially in other medical education platforms and AI applications in clinical environments.

Insights from OPQRST’s CEO

Dr. Ikutaka Yamada expressed his enthusiasm for the support received: “We are incredibly honored that our collaborative research with Chiba University Hospital has been accepted into the 'Chiba Gin Research and Development Grant Program 2025.' This support represents a crucial step toward realizing our vision of empowering all healthcare providers with enhanced interview skills. With this backing, we aim to further develop medical education that effectively utilizes AI-generated patient scenarios, creating a future where these tools are harnessed broadly and deeply across the healthcare sector.”

Commitment to Future Medical Practitioners

At OPQRST, our mission is to ensure that medical students and emerging healthcare professionals can efficiently enhance their skills through the AI-supported simulation system "OPQRST." With the vision of fostering a generation of medical talent, we are dedicated to developing practitioners who are confident in their ability to conduct interviews and create a safe, open environment for patient communication.
