Experience the Art of Nature: Wax Art Workshop with Bees at Niwa Hotel Tokyo

Discover Nature’s Artistry at Niwa Hotel Tokyo

Niwa Hotel Tokyo is set to host an engaging workshop titled "Beeswax Art" on March 29, 2026, designed to deepen our appreciation for bees and the environment. This workshop, organized as part of the hotel’s "eco庭" (Eco Garden) initiative, combines art and sustainability by utilizing natural materials. Participants will learn about bees and their important role in the ecosystem, while creating beautiful beeswax art pieces.

The event underscores the hotel’s commitment to sustainability by blending its rooftop garden and urban beekeeping efforts. In recent years, the hotel has transformed abandoned suitcases left by guests into vibrant planters for their rooftop garden. Starting in February 2024, the hotel will incorporate beekeeping to aid the pollination of their vegetable crops. This has shown remarkable success, with the hotel producing around 80 kilograms of honey in its inaugural year, which is used in breakfast offerings, specialty drinks, and even as an ingredient in the hotel's original craft beer.

The Art of Beeswax

Beeswax art, one of humanity's oldest painting techniques, uses zero water and generates minimal waste, making it a sustainable approach to art. In this workshop, natural pigments extracted from camellias blooming in the hotel gardens will be used, allowing participants to unleash their creativity.

At the end of the session, attendees can indulge in delightful cakes infused with the honey collected from the hotel's rooftop hives – a sweet conclusion to an enlightening experience.

Niwa Hotel's Sustainability Initiatives

Niwa Hotel Tokyo, founded in 1935, is committed to creating a sustainable environment through its "eco庭" project, which focuses on environmental conservation and enhancing biodiversity. Recycled leaves from the hotel’s four gardens are turned into compost, and discarded suitcases are ingeniously repurposed as planters for the rooftop garden. The project is designed to connect guests with nature and create a circular economy within the hotel, from nurturing plants to harvesting honey for use in its dining experiences.

The hotel also participates in initiatives such as PASSTO, where guests are encouraged to leave unwanted clothing in rooms, which is then collected and recycled, significantly reducing environmental impact.
