Pinecone Pathways Program Returns For Spring 2025
The highly anticipated Pinecone Pathways program is gearing up for its grand return to Moore County, North Carolina, marking one of the largest scavenger hunts in the region. Scheduled from
March 20 to April 22, 2025, this unique event invites residents and visitors alike to partake in an adventure filled with creativity and exploration.
Originally launched by the Pinehurst, Southern Pines, and Aberdeen Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), this program relies heavily on the artistic collaboration with Starworks, a renowned glassmaking studio in Star, NC. The goal is both simple and exciting: participants will roam the beautiful trails in search of
100 one-of-a-kind glass pinecones that are cleverly concealed throughout the diverse landscape of Moore County. The hunt coincides perfectly with the arrival of spring, assuming the spirit of renewal and outdoor activity.
Kickoff Celebration
To mark the occasion, the CVB will host a
Pinecone Pathways Kickoff Party on March 18 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities in Southern Pines. This family-friendly event will feature announcements related to the scavenger hunt, opportunities to meet the talented glassmakers behind the pinecones, as well as entertainment provided by local music group
Whiskey Pines. Additionally, participants can enjoy a delightful range of culinary options from various food trucks.
The Hunt
Starting the first day of spring, each week for five weeks, 20 glass pinecones will be hidden along select trails. Weekly announcements via social media will guide eager hunters on where to search. Each pinecone comes with a unique number and a QR code, making it easy for finders to register their discovery online for a chance at exciting prizes, which include a two-night stay in the scenic Pinehurst area.
To maintain fairness and fun, participants are asked to only keep one glass pinecone that they find while ensuring that others remain hidden for future searches. Only one registration will be allowed per household, ensuring it’s a community-focused event.
Economic Impact
The Pinecone Pathways program has been remarkably successful, garnering attention from visitors across several states. Phil Werz, President and CEO of the CVB, remarks, “Pinecone Pathways has quickly become the most popular annual event we support. Last year, we saw people from a number of states making the trip to the Pinehurst area and Moore County to spend a couple of days searching for these unique glass treasures.” The economic impact is evident, with Moore County ranking as the tenth-largest tourism economy in North Carolina in 2023, generating approximately
$805 million annually in visitor spending.
This event not only encourages outdoor exercise but also fosters community spirit and economic development in the region. Participants of all ages can partake in this fun and inventive adventure with the requirement that those claiming the grand prize must be at least 21 years old.
As the date approaches, excitement builds for the Pinecone Pathways program. Families and individuals are encouraged to come out, enjoy nature, and engage in this creatively enriching scavenger hunt that highlights the beautiful scenery of Moore County while celebrating community and artistry.
