The Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo 2027 Spring/Summer kicked off on August 31 and will run until September 5, featuring a series of spectacular shows and presentations at the main venue, Shibuya Hikarie.
This year marks a significant transition for Japan Fashion Week as it embarks on its next 20 years following the celebration of its 20th anniversary last September. A plethora of exciting initiatives is set to be introduced, setting the stage for the vibrant future of fashion in Japan.
Highlights from the First Half of the Event
On the opening day, the collection from
yoshiokubo graced the runway first, showcasing a massive tent inspired by Mongolia’s traditional ger. With the theme "Natural Born Nomads," the collection explored the idea of urban runners, utilizing lightweight materials and clever cutting techniques to present a range of daily wear that is both versatile and striking.
Seivson, presented in the lovely western-style building of
Hatoyama Kaikan, took inspiration from the concept of 'kebabō,' a private space resembling a bedroom or living room. This season’s theme transitioned into a more gothic ambience with lingerie-inspired details, successfully merging adult femininity with youthful innocence. A collaboration with
Juicy Couture added to the allure of the collection.
Next,
WHiTENOOK, under the creative direction of
Su Shin, made a highlight as it participated for the first time as an official designer brand. Previously showcased at the China Fashion Week, their current collection revolves around "融 (FUSION)". It started with clean designs highlighting natural materials, transitioning to more vibrant denim pieces, representing the evolution of their work.
To close the first day,
ENFÖLD designer Mizuki Ueda presented a collection themed "WRAPPING STRUCTURE," focusing on architecture and showcasing distinct silhouettes, further asserting the brand's strong presence in the world of women's fashion.
The second day commenced with a partnership showcase by the
Global Fashion Collective, which has become a staple at Rakuten FWT, promoting creative designers from various fashion cities worldwide. Participating brands included
SHINO,
Nar RewEkar, and
PERRY JONES.
Following this, a collaborative runway show by lifestyle brand
BENCH/ presented the "Threads of Dreams" collection, celebrating the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Japan. This collaboration featured three Philippine brands —
Let Ira,
Jaggie Grarino, and
Joey Samson — each making their Japanese debut.
The brand
support surface captured attention with its motto emphasizing the importance of integrating the best technology into everyday life. With 99% of their production based in Japan, they continue to support local craftsmanship through their sincere and beautiful creations.
