Creating a Supportive Society for All Children and Youth to Thrive in Their Own Lives

The Tenagaojisan Project: A Step Towards a Brighter Future

In a remarkable initiative to promote a vibrant society where all children and youth can walk their unique paths with ease, the Tenagaojisan Project has recently achieved its status as a non-profit organization (NPO). This development underscores a commitment to empowering disadvantaged youth through tangible support and opportunities for personal growth.

Vision and Mission

Founded to coincide with the April Dream campaign, which aims to inspire and uplift young spirits, the Tenagaojisan Project has a rich history of supporting children living under social protective care. Particularly, the organization focuses on young individuals transitioning out of foster care. The mission is not only to provide necessary items, such as clothing and dishes, but also to foster essential connections and experiences that will serve these young people throughout their journeys.

Emphasizing Connections and Experiences

The challenges faced by youth in social care often go unnoticed. Beyond financial uncertainties, these individuals grapple with limited access to experiences and narrow career paths, as well as potential isolation after leaving the system. Recognizing these hidden struggles has inspired the Tenagaojisan Project to broaden its vision of support. Not only does it aim to deliver material assistance but it also emphasizes the creation of lasting connections and opportunities for diverse interactions with adults and career paths.

Through events like the 'Dish and Clothing Handout,' the project has positively impacted nearly 400 youth across 60 facilities and organizations. This initiative creatively repurposes items that are no longer suitable for retail due to minor imperfections, showcasing a commitment to environmental sustainability while also teaching the younger generations about the culture of craftsmanship.

From Humble Beginnings to Expanding Horizons

The project began in 2011, ignited by the compassion of local artisans who wanted to help children affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. Over time, it gained momentum with support from companies like Mother Dictionary, which helped refine operational strategies. What started as a small gesture evolved into a robust initiative that provides heartfelt items to children and youth facing various circumstances.

Since 2020, the 'Dish and Clothing Handout' has provided foster care youth with the opportunity to choose their own dishes and clothes as they prepare for newfound independence. This small but significant act helps build confidence and a sense of identity, essential for young individuals entering the next chapter of their lives.

Through building consistent relationships, the Tenagaojisan Project fosters an ongoing support system, ensuring that help continues even after transitioning out of social care.

A Brighter Outlook for Future Generations

The ultimate goal of the Tenagaojisan Project is to cultivate a society where all children and youth can confidently navigate their own lives. This endeavor recognizes the importance of continually providing opportunities for learning and connection. By focusing on creating a more sustainable and permanent support framework, the organization aims to address the complex needs of at-risk youth.

The Tenagaojisan Project is committed to ensuring that every child feels empowered to lead their lives without unnecessary burdens, and that they can find joy and purpose in their journeys. Moving forward, the organization will continue to pursue its bright and engaging model of support, fostering resilience and independence among the young people it serves.
