Third Phase of 'Asobi no Mushi' Project Distributes Toy Sets Nationwide for Children with Difficult Illnesses

Supporting Children with Difficult Illnesses: The 'Asobi no Mushi' Project

The ongoing challenges faced by children with serious illnesses and their families are immense, and toys can play a pivotal role in providing solace and joy. The Tokyo Toy Museum, led by Director Chihiro Tada, in collaboration with the Nippon Foundation, is proud to announce the third phase of the 'Asobi no Mushi' project, which aims to distribute specially curated toy sets to facilities that support these children.

A Legacy of Generosity

This heartfelt initiative has evolved since its inception: in the first phase of the project in 2020, 90 facilities received these valuable toy sets. The second phase in 2023 expanded this reach to 150 locations, culminating in a total of 240 recipients. The project continues to grow, with an ambitious plan to distribute to 120 additional facilities nationwide in the third phase scheduled for early 2026. The focus is on harnessing the power of play not only through toys but also through educational resources and nationwide gatherings aimed at fostering smiles among kids facing medical hardships.

The Joy of Play

Play is a universal language, a nurturing force that has the ability to heal children’s hearts. The moment a child clutches a toy, a spark ignites in their eyes. This initiative allows everyone to be a part of a meaningful effort: by distributing thoughtful toy sets, we aim to enrich the lives of these incredible children and their families.

An Assortment of Global Toys

Each toy box contains a selection of 40 exceptional toys from around the globe, specifically chosen to engage and stimulate children with serious health conditions. The Tokyo Toy Museum meticulously compiles these toys into two boxes, ensuring that each facility receiving the set has tools to enhance their playroom environment effectively.

Learning from the Experts

The initiative extends beyond just providing toys. Participants will benefit from training sessions led by professional toy consultants who specialize in leveraging play for developmental assistance. This vibrant exchange of ideas offers facilities unique insights into integrating playful learning strategies in support of children with disabilities. Moreover, establishing connections among facilities grappling with similar challenges enhances the overall quality and effectiveness of support.

Connecting Through the Network

In conjunction with the project, the 'Asobi no Mushi Network' is being developed to facilitate collaboration among medical and welfare facilities across the nation. The upcoming 'Asobi no Mushi National Conference' on May 31, 2026, will serve as an interactive platform for peers to connect, learn, and share experiences, reinforcing the collective mission of nourishing children's spirits through play.

A Particularly Meaningful Project

'Asobi no Mushi' is not just a project; it's a vital movement aimed at creating enriching environments for facilities that focus on hospital-based childcare and support for children with disabilities. We invite your facility to join this inspiring network, connecting with like-minded peers and embarking on a meaningful journey of shared knowledge and experience.

How to Apply for Free Distribution

If your facility is committed to supporting children with difficult illnesses, we encourage you to apply for this worthy initiative.
