Kolmar Korea Aims to Conquer Global Skincare Market with Unique Korean Beauty Products

Kolmar Korea's Global Skincare Aspirations

Kolmar Korea has set its sights on a major expansion in the global skincare industry, primarily focusing on the burgeoning K-beauty segment. The company, known for being a leading original development manufacturer (ODM) in cosmetics, is strategically enhancing its skin care offerings using ingredients that are quintessentially Korean. As the global trend favors "ingredient-focused beauty" with an emphasis on natural components and proven efficacy, Kolmar aims to capture consumer attention worldwide with its innovative cleansers and masks.

In recent times, the market for facial cleansers and masks has experienced rapid growth, propelled by the influence of short video platforms like TikTok. The phrase "Korean skincare routine" has become a buzzword in beauty circles, leading consumers to explore not only sunscreen but also effective cleansers and masks. In response to this trend, Kolmar Korea is ramping up its global outreach by collaborating with partner brands to develop skin care products that incorporate natural Korean ingredients.

One outstanding example is the Mung Bean pH-Balanced Cleansing Foam, co-created with the skincare brand Beplain. This product ingeniously revitalizes the use of mung beans, which have served as a natural cleanser in Korea for over a millennium, now presented in a gentle formula with powerful cleansing capacities. With over 10 million units sold, it has gained traction in markets such as the United States, France, China, and Vietnam, thanks in part to organic buzz on social media.

Furthermore, Kolmar is advancing the development of natural mud-based face masks. The Relief Mud Mask, a collaboration with the natural cosmetics brand BRMUD, features over 30% mud sourced from Boryeong, recognized as one of the world’s top five mud flats located in Korea. The mask utilizes ultra-fine powder particles that are 40 times smaller than wheat flour for efficient impurity absorption. Gaining acclaim through a mention by American singer Cardi B on TikTok, this product is now available in 11 countries, including retail locations like Costco in the U.S.

These innovations stem from Kolmar Korea's robust R&D capabilities. The company employs a workforce where more than 30% are researchers and allocates about 6% of its annual revenue to R&D initiatives. Their competitive edge is fortified by extensive expertise gained through partnerships with approximately 4,300 clients globally.

In its quest to uncover unique Korean cosmetic ingredients, Kolmar recently scientifically validated the anti-aging properties of Spiraea Salicifolia, with findings published in an internationally recognized SCI journal, resulting in the ingredient's entry into the International Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary (ICID). Last year, the company identified the benefits of an extract from Sophora Flavescens, a leguminous plant, in preventing hair loss, presenting its research at an international academic conference that sparked considerable interest.

Moreover, Kolmar is branching out into fragrances derived from indigenous Korean plants like the Rose of Sharon and lotus, aiming to elevate the sensory value of traditional Korean herbs. A spokesperson for Kolmar Korea noted, "As global interest in K-beauty stretches beyond sun care to encompass holistic skincare solutions, we enhance our market competitiveness by blending cutting-edge technology with Korea’s natural treasures. By continuously investing in R&D and innovation, we aspire to become a worldwide leader in skincare with ingredients unique to Korea."
