Campus to Community Fund Awards $20,000 to Student Entrepreneurs
On March 28, 2026, Texas State University hosted its second pitch event for the Campus to Community Fund, a key initiative of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. This year, the fund rewarded $20,000 to two promising student entrepreneurs, continuing its commitment to nurturing entrepreneurial talent within the student community.
The featured ventures of the day were YAH's Descent and Meza Metalworks, both standing out for their innovative approaches and business potential. Lucrecia Olususi and Kreestyn Okorodudu, the dynamic duo behind YAH's Descent, received funding aimed at finalizing product development to launch their luxurious line of vegan leather tote bags. Their brand uniquely blends style, purpose, and a commitment to mental wellness, promising a deeper connection between fashion and empowerment. The funding will facilitate their first production run, legal safeguards, and essential marketing efforts to ensure a successful launch.
Meanwhile, Bernardo Meza, the founder of Meza Metalworks, also secure $10,000 from the fund. His business specializes in custom metal art and design, known for its blend of artisanal craftsmanship and precise engineering. This award will assist Bernardo in expanding his operations and reaching a broader customer base, solidifying his presence in the competitive art world.
A panel of esteemed judges, including Randy Haran, Jeff Cuban, Scott Barnes, Drew Lynch, and Kimberly Lynch, evaluated the pitches. Their decision was not just based on the quality of the ideas presented, but also on the potential for growth and readiness for market entry. Both teams impressed the judges with their passion, innovation, and strategic business models, showcasing the caliber of talent cultivated at Texas State University.
What truly sets the Campus to Community Fund apart is its comprehensive support system. Beyond the financial awards, both winning teams will continue to receive mentorship from faculty, local professionals, and successful entrepreneurs.
