Innovating Through AI: Elevating Value Creation in Tech Companies

At the recent Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, James Chen, the President of Huawei Carrier Business, delivered a thought-provoking keynote titled "Innovating Through AI: Elevating Value Creation for Tech Companies." Chen laid out a vision where technology is not just about transformation but rather focused on the ultimate goal of generating value.

In light of the rapid advancements in technologies such as 5.5G, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence (AI), traditional service providers are transitioning to become digital service providers. Huawei advocates for a framework known as the "Five Ones" model, which aims to simplify this transformation for operators into tech companies, or 'techcos.' This paradigm is designed to help operators reshape their business models, infrastructure, and operations, enabling them to capitalize on ongoing transformation opportunities and deliver lasting value.

Shifting Mindsets Towards Monetization

One notable change highlighted by Chen is the need for a unified monetization model that differentiates service experiences. With new service scenarios emerging—such as live streaming, business travel, and gaming—service providers are required to leverage AI to offer network experiences tailored to diverse user needs. For instance, AI can assist operators in dynamically adjusting network experiences to match user requirements while tracking and enhancing their service quality in real-time. Currently, over 35 operators worldwide have adopted experience monetization models that adjust rates based on speed and quality of service.

Creating Unified AI Experiences

As homes become increasingly smart, operators have the opportunity to provide more personalized services through a unified smart home services portal, evolving from mere bandwidth providers to comprehensive AI service providers. For example, airlines in China and South Korea have initiated residential AI hubs featuring AI agents that seamlessly connect with smart home devices. These hubs utilize multimodal interaction to call upon intelligent applications hosted in the cloud based on user intent, ensuring a cohesive customer experience.

A Comprehensive Cloud Platform for B2B Services

In order to seize the opportunities presented by digital and intelligent transformation across various sectors, operators must establish a multifaceted cloud platform tailored for B2B services. This platform should offer capabilities such as a cloud marketplace and intelligent code generation, facilitating rapid integration within the ecosystem and allowing developers to expedite innovation and application launches. A notable success story involves a North African operator using a multi-cloud platform to assist thousands of businesses and customers across more than ten sectors in adopting digital transformation.

Reinventing Operations with AI

The core foundational AI technologies can significantly enhance operational efficiency for airlines by creating digital twins of networks and services. This innovation allows operators to translate data and scenarios into actionable insights and integrate core telecommunication model technologies into these digital twins or AI agents. By constantly training and optimizing these models, AI technologies can streamline routine operational management tasks. In a successful operational management case, AI technologies were used to swiftly diagnose and rectify network failures, reducing problem resolution times to under 30 minutes.

Building a Synergistic Architecture

In this AI era, the communications infrastructure must integrate various resources, spanning network, storage, cloud, and processing elements. It is imperative to architect a system capable of seamlessly integrating these resources. This architecture should embody three critical features: intelligent connectivity, offering deterministic guarantees and lossless connections for users; an intelligent cloud, providing heterogeneous computational capabilities and on-demand intelligent processing services; and collaborative capabilities that synergize all resource components from planning to operations.

In closing, James Chen stressed that innovating through AI is pivotal for expediting operators' transformations into techcos. By leveraging cutting-edge products and solutions, Huawei is committed to partnering with clients to reshape business models, operational management, and infrastructures, thus unlocking greater value and seizing the vast opportunities that the AI era has to offer.
