Celebration of European Wine Culture in New York City Draws Over 2,000 Enthusiasts

Move the Passion: A Celebration of European Wine in NYC

On June 8, New York City transformed into a hub of European wine culture for the Move the Passion event, attracting over 2,000 participants. Hosted in three iconic Manhattan venues, this event was part of the Charming Taste of Europe initiative, co-funded by the European Union. The initiative aims to promote the heritage and quality of European products. The gathering included industry professionals, media, and enthusiastic consumers eager to learn and celebrate European wine.

The Day’s Highlights

The event kicked off with a masterclass focused on Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo, led by Alison Napjus, a Senior Editor at Wine Spectator. This session was designed for trade professionals and provided insights into the characteristics, versatility, and increasing global significance of this unique Italian wine. Over 60 professionals attended, representing sommeliers, buyers, and educators, all keen to delve deeper into this particular wine variety.

Following the masterclass, the program continued with a walk-around tasting organized by the Consorzio di Tutela Vini d'Abruzzo, drawing in more than 200 trade attendees. Guests enjoyed the diversity and range of Abruzzo wines, allowing for an engaging and interactive experience as they mingled with fellow wine enthusiasts.

The day culminated in a gala dinner hosted by Jeff Porter, the brand ambassador for The Charming Taste of Europe. This exclusive event gathered 40 guests from various sectors, including wine, hospitality, and media, fostering networking opportunities in an atmosphere that celebrated both Abruzzo wines and European gastronomy.

As the evening progressed, Move the Passion opened its doors to consumers and recorded over 5,000 registrations. With more than 2,000 attendees engaging at three venues—Hall des Lumières, New York Vintners, and Arlo Soho Rooftop—it was clear that the public was enthusiastic about experiencing European wines firsthand.

Engaging Experiences

Throughout the day, attendees had the chance to partake in tastings that married education with storytelling, enriching their understanding of European wine culture and making it accessible to a broader audience. The diverse programming successfully bridged the gap between producers and consumers, showcasing how relevant and vital European wine culture truly is within today's urban landscape.
