BetsyBnB Receives 2025 NAVC Gives Marquee Award for Animal Welfare Innovations

BetsyBnB's Life-Changing Recognition

The North American Veterinary Community (NAVC) has recently announced that BetsyBnB has been selected as the recipient of the prestigious 2025 NAVC Gives Marquee Award. This recognition comes with a grant of $25,000, which will be instrumental in furthering BetsyBnB's mission to ensure the safety and well-being of pets belonging to individuals facing crises such as domestic abuse, mental health challenges, or housing instability.

BetsyBnB is revolutionizing the way temporary care for pets is provided in crisis situations. The organization utilizes a technological platform to connect shelters and social service agencies with safe, confidential care options for pets, allowing individuals in distress to keep their beloved companions with them. This initiative is particularly important, as many individuals in emergency situations often feel they cannot seek help unless they can ensure their pets are also cared for. A study conducted by The Urban Resource Institute in collaboration with the National Domestic Violence Hotline found that a staggering 50% of respondents would not consider seeking shelter if they were unable to bring their pets along, with this concern even more pronounced among those dealing with mental health issues.

With a keen focus on maintaining the integral Human-Animal Bond, BetsyBnB has developed a model that not only holds pets in a protected environment but also facilitates ongoing connections between pets and their owners via its digital platform. This allows individuals to stay in touch with their pets, significantly alleviating the emotional strain of separation during tumultuous times.

Matthew Krentz, co-founder of BetsyBnB, expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating, "We are honored and humbled to receive this support from NAVC Gives. This award helps create more awareness for our life-saving mission within the veterinary community, directly communicating with the professionals who inspire us every day." He added that with the assistance of veterinary professionals, they aim to expand their crisis-care platform across every community in the United States, continuing to promote education, care, and improvement of well-being for both animals and people.

The NAVC presented the Marquee Award during a ceremony held on January 25 at VMX 2025, the largest annual veterinary education conference globally. BetsyBnB has seen remarkable growth since its inception in 2022, partnering with 49 agencies across 18 states, collectively providing over 5,000 safe nights for pets, with an impressive reunification rate of 100%.

NAVC CEO Gene O'Neill praised BetsyBnB's innovative approach, stating, "BetsyBnB is a shining example of what can be achieved when individuals are committed to tackling big problems with an innovative approach." It's clear that NAVC recognizes the tremendous potential in technologies that can enhance the well-being of both humans and their cherished pets.

Launched in 2023, NAVC Gives was created to recognize and support organizations making a significant impact in the lives of veterinary professionals and the animals they serve. Initially funded with a commitment of $1 million, NAVC Gives has made substantial financial contributions since its establishment, disbursing $90,000 in awards to six different nominees.

The NAVC's philanthropic efforts extend beyond just this award, as they donate hundreds of thousands of dollars annually to support veterinary professionals through scholarships and educational resources. The organization is dedicated to advancing animal welfare and promoting excellence within the veterinary community.
