CAT-A-TAC's Unique Dance Experience
The renowned dance company, CAT-A-TAC, is set to unveil an immersive performance titled
Alice in Wonderland: The Queen Who Lost Her Heart on August 2-3, 2025, at the Kokumin Kyousai Coop Hall/Space Zero in Shibuya, Tokyo. This innovative production invites audiences into a world where the entire theater transforms into the magical realm of Alice. Tickets are currently available through Confetti (run by Long Run Planning, based in Shinjuku, Tokyo).
A New Interpretation of a Timeless Classic
This unique theatrical experience is rooted in Lewis Carroll's beloved original story but is brought to life through an entirely original script and direction by Yoshihiro Fujita, a member of the Condors. The performance utilizes a silent dance theater format, delivering the narrative solely through physical expression, music, and a storyteller. This approach presents a completely fresh perspective on Alice's adventures, engaging audiences without the use of spoken language.
The show features a variety of dance forms including tap, jazz, and contemporary dance. As the audience journeys alongside a guide character, their connection to the stage deepens, fostering a complete immersion into the narrative. The audience can expect a multimedia experience where movement, music, and live storytelling combine to create a rich sensory experience.
A Dynamic Soundscape Crafted Live
Adding to the immersive atmosphere is a dynamic musical score inspired by pop and rock genres, performed live. All sound effects throughout the performance will also be created in real-time by CAT-A-TAC member and percussionist Yoshinori Shiraishi, blending visual and auditory elements for an extraordinary multidimensional theater experience that stimulates all senses.
Embracing Youthful Energy
The performance will feature an ensemble of 18 talented artists from diverse backgrounds in contemporary dance, tap, acrobatics, theater, and music. The vibrant energy and intense movements of the younger generation of dancers will be a highlight, further enhanced by Fujita's playful direction, promising an evening rich with engaging entertainment.
An Interactive Wonderland
In conjunction with the performances, CAT-A-TAC will host interactive events in the lobby and gallery spaces that expand the Alice in Wonderland universe. These experiences are designed for all ages, providing educational and enjoyable content for families and adults alike. Expect workshops that tie into the artistic themes of the show, including craft workshops perfect for summer research projects and tap dancing or percussion sessions led by characters from the story. This dynamic programming ensures that audiences not only watch but actively participate in the wonder of Alice's world.
