Nikken Total Sourcing Collaborates with Hiroshima University for Semiconductor Education Initiative

Nikken Total Sourcing's Partnership with Hiroshima University

In an effort to address the pressing shortage of skilled professionals in the semiconductor industry, Nikken Total Sourcing Co., a company based in Ota, Tokyo, has partnered with Hiroshima University to support the establishment of the Hiroshima University Semiconductor Recurrent Academy. This initiative aims to leverage the company’s extensive training expertise in the development of practical foundational education programs, in collaboration with Micron Memory Japan, targeted at cultivating advanced talent from various fields in this crucial sector.

Background of the Initiative

The technological advancements in AI and other cutting-edge fields have prompted a dire need for enhanced competitiveness within Japan's semiconductor industry. With large-scale investments currently planned by semiconductor manufacturers, nurturing skilled technicians who can maintain equipment and drive R&D has become an urgent priority.

Hiroshima University is committed to continuous development within the semiconductor field through programs focused on recurrent education for professionals, targeting mainly those already engaged in the workforce. This partnership is part of a broader initiative backed by Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology aimed at fostering knowledge and skills pertinent to the semiconductor industry. Nikken Total Sourcing is contributing to the development of educational programs and the deployment of instructors for training future semiconductor operators.

Details of the Training Program

Nikken Total Sourcing boasts a robust network of 62 training facilities nationwide and has successfully trained approximately 13,500 individuals annually. Utilizing this experience, the company is collaborating with Hiroshima University and Micron in a newly developed program, the Semiconductor Technician Dispatch Program. In this program, instructors well-versed in the semiconductor field will conduct training over a span of 10 days, encompassing foundational knowledge, process safety lectures, equipment inspection simulations, safety education, and training on equipment maintenance—skills essential for employment in semiconductor manufacturing.

Plans are set for five sessions this fiscal year, accommodating around 100 participants to gain essential expertise in this thriving sector.
