April 22, 2025 marks the 56th Earth Day celebration, themed "OUR POWER, OUR PLANET," a global call to harness renewable energy and enhance clean electricity generation threefold by 2030. In alignment with this important theme, Angel Yeast (DEHONG) Co., Ltd, listed under SH 600298, announced a significant milestone: the establishment of its first-ever zero-carbon factory in Yichang, China.

A New Standard for Sustainable Manufacturing

Officially recognized on April 2, 2025, as a Class I three-star "Zero-Carbon Factory" by the China Quality Certification Center, Angel Yeast's DEHONG facility sets a commendable precedent in eco-friendly manufacturing. The designation reflects the company's commitment to minimizing greenhouse gas emissions through cutting-edge energy-saving technologies and a robust renewable energy framework.

A zero-carbon factory signifies an innovative approach to production that focuses on drastically reducing emissions. It effectively employs methods like energy conservation, renewable energy sourcing, and implementing negative carbon practices to offset any residual emissions through carbon-neutral initiatives. To achieve the prestigious three-star certification, DEHONG successfully tackled Scope 1 (direct emissions) and Scope 2 (indirect energy emissions), achieving a self-reduction and offset ratio surpassing 50% for remaining emissions.

According to Wu Xiaofeng, Assistant to the General Manager and head of Production Management, "Energy efficiency, emissions reduction, and green production are crucial elements of our growth strategy. Our comprehensive carbon reduction framework encompasses product design and greenhouse gas reduction, all while we modernize our production to adopt eco-friendly technologies."

Innovative Steps Towards the Clean Energy Revolution

Angel Yeast’s carbon reduction strategy gained remarkable traction in 2024, primarily focusing on transforming its energy paradigm to include clean energy solutions efficiently. The result was an impressive decrease of 210,500 tons in carbon emissions, attributed significantly to the utilization of 129,673 megawatt-hours of green electricity, which accounted for a 72,200-ton reduction on its own.

The company made considerable strides in installing photovoltaic power systems while pivoting from coal to biomass fuel sources. In 2024, Angel Yeast effectively produced 176.7 megawatt-hours of energy from solar panels and procured 122,800 tons of biomass steam, leading to a reduction of 37,500 tons in carbon emissions. The pioneering biomass substitution initiatives successfully employed 33,600 tons of biomass fuel, resulting in a further carbon emission decline of 40,900 tons.

Additionally, subsidiaries within the Angel Yeast Group advanced biogas recovery initiatives, transforming biogas into steam used in production. Remarkably, the recovery efforts totaled over 28 million cubic meters of biogas, replacing coal-fired steam and contributing a reduction of 59,900 tons in carbon emissions.

As part of their sustainable practices, the company conducted energy-saving technology upgrades across its operations, achieving notable annual savings that included the following:

- Electricity: Reduced by 2,309.16 megawatt-hours
- Water: Savings of 29,000 tons
- Steam: Savings of 40,000 tons

These improvements led to a decrease of 13,500 tons in carbon dioxide emissions, underscoring the efficacy of their efforts.
