Carol's Daughter's Commitment to Black Maternal Health
New York, April 11, 2025 - Carol's Daughter, the beauty brand known for its high-quality products, is proud to mark the fifth anniversary of its transformative Black maternal health initiative, known as Love Delivered. Since its launch, this initiative has made significant strides in addressing the disparities faced by Black women in maternal health, paving the way for equitable support and education in a field long overshadowed by systemic issues.
A New Chapter in Support
In this pivotal year, Carol's Daughter is expanding its offerings to increase access to doula services for expectant mothers. The brand has initiated a new round of grants, enabling eligible pregnant and postpartum families in major cities such as New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Atlanta, New Orleans, and Washington D.C. to apply for pro bono doula services. This move aims to alleviate financial burdens and ensure that families receive crucial support during and after the birthing process.
According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), while maternal mortality rates have generally declined across the United States, Black women continue to face disproportionately high risks. They are over twice as likely to suffer severe pregnancy-related complications and 3.4 times more likely to die from these complications compared to their white counterparts. In the face of these alarming statistics, the Love Delivered initiative is unwavering in its dedication to fostering Black maternal health equity.
Lisa Price, the founder of Carol's Daughter, expressed her commitment: "Through Love Delivered, we are dedicated to ensuring every Black birthing person receives comprehensive support and education throughout their maternal journey. As we celebrate this milestone, my resolve to uplift Black mothers and their families is stronger than ever."
Empowering the Community
Since its inception, the Love Delivered initiative has successfully engaged nearly 500,000 individuals through a combination of events, financial grants, and educational programs. By providing doula support for over 120 births and reaching an astounding audience of nearly 10 billion through digital advocacy, the initiative has been instrumental in changing narratives surrounding Black maternal health.
Latham Thomas, the founder of the Mama Glow Foundation, a valued partner in this endeavor, remarked on the impact of their collaboration: "Our partnership has not only brought attention to the challenges faced by Black birthing people but also created pathways for doulas to earn a sustainable living. Together, we are advocating for improved maternal health standards across the nation."
To celebrate Black Maternal Health Week (April 11-17), the Mama Glow Foundation is hosting a webinar titled 'Bumping While Black: Navigating Perinatal Wellness Advocacy' on April 16 at 6:30 PM ET. This event will bring together experts such as Dr. Rhonia Brooks and Vanessa Williams Jones to discuss the critical issues surrounded by Black maternal wellness.
Collaborations and Impact
Carol's Daughter continues its valuable partnership with NewYork-Presbyterian's Dalio Center for Health Justice, which aims to address the needs of obstetric and pediatric patients effectively. Following a successful pilot program that provided hair care kits for patients with textured hair in 2021, the initiative now reaches multiple campuses, distributing over 30,000 hair care products to both patients and community members.
As part of their ongoing efforts, Carol's Daughter works closely with CVS to raise awareness for the Mama Glow Foundation's mission through in-store displays, reaching over 2,000 retail locations.
