Canton Fair 2026: A Major Showcase of Innovation and Growth in Global Trade

The 139th China Import and Export Fair, commonly known as the Canton Fair, is set to commence on April 15 and will run until May 5, 2026, in Guangzhou. This year’s event is larger than ever, comprising a total exhibition area of 1.55 million square meters and featuring over 75,700 booths with participation from more than 32,000 enterprises. This marks a significant increase from previous editions, showcasing the fair's vital role in facilitating connections between businesses and global markets.

With approximately 3,900 first-time exhibitors involved, the Canton Fair continues to emphasize its commitment to innovative trade solutions. To address the dynamic shifts in global commerce and industrial advancements, the exhibition’s layout and exhibitor classification have undergone a thorough optimization. Notably, the number of zones has expanded to 179, introducing nine new zones dedicated to rapidly growing sectors. These include themes such as smart wearables, display technologies, consumer drones, prefabricated houses, and agricultural facilities.

Highlighting a move towards advanced manufacturing and next-generation productive forces, over 60% of the exhibitors will utilize cutting-edge technologies ranging from industrial Internet applications to artificial intelligence and 5G solutions. Additionally, environmentally friendly and low-carbon production methods are gaining traction among participants. Attendees can look forward to more than 4.65 million exhibits, with a significant focus on innovative products, eco-friendly items, and those boasting proprietary intellectual property.

In response to the needs of buyers, the Canton Fair has also enhanced its services, including the introduction of a one-stop service center aimed at attendees, year-round pre-registration options, and a dedicated newsletter specifically for buyers. These enhancements aim to improve the efficiency and personalization of information delivery, making it easier for buyers to navigate the fair and enhancing their overall experience.

From the perspective of new buyers, the event offers an integrated and intelligent experience, with a streamlined process from visit planning through to post-fair follow-up. The updated Canton Fair app boasts 26 functionalities along with 14 new AI application scenarios, further easing the experience for attendees.

Participation from global buyers is witnessing significant growth in both scope and variety. As of April 9, over 210,000 foreign buyers had pre-registered for the fair, representing a 20% increase compared to the last spring session. Notably, the number of confirmed leading procurement companies surged by 30%, bringing the count to 290. Buyers from Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) countries, Latin America, and Africa are among those experiencing remarkable growth, with specialized buyers now constituting more than 70% of registrations for the first time.

To support buyers from the Middle East facing travel restrictions, the fair has expanded its hybrid service model. This includes online matching of supply and demand, live-stream events on overseas social media platforms, and improved on-the-ground services for foreign companies operating in China.

This year, the Canton Fair not only reinforces its historical significance but also positions itself at the forefront of innovation, making it an essential venue for forging connections and exploring new business opportunities on a global scale.
