On June 14, 2025, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva officially unveiled its exhibition titled "Safeguarding Innovation, Forging the Future: Copyright in China." This event coincided with the start of the 66th series of meetings for its member states' assemblies. Jointly organized by the National Copyright Administration of China (NCAC), the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations in Geneva, and WIPO, this exhibition drew over 1,000 delegates from member states and observer organizations.
The opening event was enriched with cultural performances showcasing traditional Chinese cuisine, creating a vibrant atmosphere for the attendees. The exhibition is thoughtfully organized into four thematic sections: International Cooperation, Legal Framework, Copyright Protection, and Industry Development. Each section offers an insightful blend of multimedia presentations, physical exhibits, hands-on experiences, case studies, and live performances, providing a comprehensive overview of the evolution of China's copyright system and its growing role in global intellectual property governance.
This exhibition highlights the crucial role of copyright in promoting innovation and driving social and economic progress. It also emphasizes China's commitment to international collaboration and its pragmatic approach to strengthening copyright protection.
Daren Tang, the Director General of WIPO, attended the inauguration ceremony and delivered a speech acknowledging China's long-standing contributions to innovation, tracing back from ancient inventions to the contemporary digital creative industries. He noted that China's flourishing copyright sector significantly contributes to economic growth, job creation, and a vibrant cultural ecosystem, underlining the global appeal of Chinese games, films, and collectible arts.
Furthermore, Tang stated that the exhibition showcases China's favorable environment for innovation and its rich cultural heritage, demonstrating the vital role copyright plays in sustaining creative economies.
A prominent official from the NCAC also addressed the audience, reiterating China's strong support for copyright sector development. The official pointed out that in recent years, copyright has increasingly become an integral part of China's national development strategy. There has been a marked enhancement in copyright legislation and governance, along with significant improvements in enforcement mechanisms, resulting in rapid growth within the copyright industries. Public awareness regarding copyright has risen remarkably, creating an increasingly dynamic atmosphere for innovation and creativity.
Additionally, China has been deepening its international cooperation, expanding dialogues and partnerships with WIPO and nations worldwide, while promoting collaboration on copyright matters under the Belt and Road Initiative. The objective of these endeavors is to construct a balanced and effective global copyright system that benefits individuals around the world.
