Celebrity Chef Carla Hall Teams Up with Fresh Market to Advocate for Alzheimer's Awareness
Celebrity Chef Carla Hall Partners with The Fresh Market
In a heartfelt initiative, celebrated chef Carla Hall joins forces with The Fresh Market to promote Alzheimer's disease awareness during the month of June. This partnership underscores the ongoing plight faced by millions affected by Alzheimer's, as well as the importance of community support and funding for research. From June 1 to June 30, 10% of the proceeds from Hall's "With Love Market Meal Kits" will be donated to the Alzheimer's Association, reflecting both culinary creativity and a commitment to social responsibility.
A Personal Mission
Carla Hall, a familiar face from Bravo's Top Chef and Top Chef All Stars, draws upon a deeply personal motivation to spearhead this campaign. With her grandmother, Freddie Mai Price Glover, having suffered from Alzheimer's, Hall's connection to the cause is both emotional and powerful. Hall recalls fond memories of shared family meals, emphasizing how significant those moments were to her upbringing. Yet, the joyous recollections turned somber as her grandmother began to forget cherished recipes familiar to her for decades. This was a pivotal moment for Hall, illustrating the devastating impact of Alzheimer's on families.
"My Granny's Sunday suppers were at the heart of our family," Hall reflects. "When she started forgetting the recipes she once made with ease, we knew something was wrong. Later, we discovered she had Alzheimer's disease." Through her engagement with the Alzheimer's Association, Hall aims to illuminate the realities of the disease and combat its stigma while promoting public support for furthering research.
Christine John-Fuller, the Executive Director of the Alzheimer's Association North Carolina Chapters, noted Hall's impact: "Carla’s passion and partnership are essential as we strive for a world free from Alzheimer's and dementia. This collaboration with The Fresh Market will catalyze funding crucial for services and research, enhancing public camaraderie in combating the challenges posed by the disease."
The Reality of Alzheimer's
The statistics regarding Alzheimer’s disease are staggering. Currently, over 7 million Americans grapple with this illness, with nearly 13 million acting as unpaid caregivers for their loved ones. These numbers are significant in North Carolina, where more than 210,500 individuals live with Alzheimer's, accompanied by 338,000 caregivers supporting them. It is in light of this information that initiatives like Hall's become increasingly vital in raising funds and sustaining public dialogue regarding the disease.
Emily Turner, Chief Marketing Officer of The Fresh Market, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, "We are excited to partner once again with Carla Hall and the Alzheimer's Association this June. We hope to surpass last year's incredible fundraising amount, which totaled over $21,000 through the sale of our Sweet Heritage Butter Tarts."
Culinary Inspiration Behind the Meals
Hall's meal kits, titled "With Love Market Meal Kits," are designed to evoke flavors and sentiments from her global travels and experiences. The kits include delicious offerings such as Smoky Harissa Salmon with Lentil-Sorghum Pilaf and Green Beans, Brown Butter Mushroom Chicken with Parmesan Sorghum Risotto and Green Beans, and Sunday Supper BBQ Chicken with Collard Greens and Mashed Sweet Potatoes. Additionally, sides like Collards, Lentil-Sorghum Pilaf, and Parmesan Sorghum Risotto enable customers to explore diverse flavors rich in love and tradition.
Throughout June, shoppers can support the Alzheimer's Association further by rounding up their purchase totals at checkout at any Fresh Market location, demonstrating how easy it can be to contribute to meaningful causes through everyday choices.
