FanDuel Expands Public Policy Expertise with Key New Hires

In a significant move to bolster its influence in public policy, FanDuel Group has announced the appointments of Shailagh Murray as the new Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Jonathan Nabavi as the Vice President of Federal Affairs. This strategic enhancement reflects FanDuel's commitment to navigating the complex landscape of online gaming regulation and advocating for a responsible and well-regulated industry.

Leadership Experience

Shailagh Murray

Murray joins FanDuel with a robust background in public affairs, having previously served as the Executive Vice President of Public Affairs at Columbia University. Her experience includes a pivotal role as a Senior Advisor to President Obama during his administration, where she played a key part in shaping communications strategy from 2015 to 2017. Before that, she held various positions, including deputy chief of staff and communications director for then-Vice President Biden.

Murray's career began in journalism, where she reported for prestigious publications such as the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post. Her noteworthy coverage spanned critical global events, including the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe and major legislative debates in the U.S., from the Iraq War to the Affordable Care Act. With a strong educational foundation – a BA in humanities from University of Missouri-Columbia and a master's in journalism from Northwestern University – she brings a wealth of knowledge and insights to her new role at FanDuel.

Jonathan Nabavi

Nabavi arrives at FanDuel from the National Football League (NFL), where he was instrumental in developing the league's public policy and legislative strategy. His expertise includes advising on sports betting policies and representing the NFL on various issues across government platforms. His previous roles have spanned senior positions in Congress, including Majority Counsel for the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary, where he provided strategic guidance to the committee's chairman, Chuck Grassley.

Nabavi holds a degree in Political Science from Pennsylvania State University, where he was a member of the Penn State football team, earning recognition as an academic All-Big Ten. He furthered his education by obtaining a Juris Doctor from the George Washington School of Law.

Implications for FanDuel

As FanDuel continues to expand its footprint in the burgeoning regulated gaming industry, the integration of seasoned professionals like Murray and Nabavi signifies a proactive approach to addressing the complex challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Christian Genetski, President of FanDuel, highlighted the importance of their roles in shaping policy discussions that will critically influence how the online gaming industry evolves.

Genetski remarked, "As we look to the future, we understand the important role FanDuel must play in policy discussions that will address how we build and shape the online gaming industry over the long term".
