David Epperson Joins Keeper Security's Federal Advisory Board
In an effort to bolster the nation's cybersecurity defenses, Keeper Security has announced the appointment of David Epperson to its Federal Advisory Board. With nearly 40 years of experience in military and federal service, Epperson brings a wealth of knowledge to this critical role. He has held significant positions at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the White House, making him a highly regarded figure in the cybersecurity landscape.
Epperson’s extensive background will contribute to Keeper's mission of providing robust cybersecurity solutions for government agencies, particularly those utilizing its FedRAMP Authorized platform. With a focus on zero-trust and zero-knowledge Privileged Access Management (PAM), Keeper Security is at the forefront of protecting vital information from evolving cyber threats. This architecture enables organizations to safeguard sensitive data while enhancing compliance with stringent security frameworks such as FedRAMP and NIST.
As the first Chief Information Officer (CIO) of CISA, Epperson was instrumental in establishing the agency’s inaugural Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) position, demonstrating his commitment to fortifying the country’s cybersecurity landscape. He also played a significant role in formulating the Department of Homeland Security’s cybersecurity strategies and has overseen nearly $1 billion in budgets aimed at enhancing critical infrastructure security.
Reflecting on his new role, Epperson stated,
“Cybersecurity is a mission-critical priority for federal agencies, and Keeper's FedRAMP Authorized solutions are essential for protecting sensitive government data.” His vision emphasizes the necessity of implementing zero-trust security principles across the public sector to mitigate risks associated with credential-based attacks.
In welcoming Epperson to the team, Darren Guccione, CEO and Co-founder of Keeper Security, expressed confidence in his ability to shape the company's future in governmental cybersecurity, saying,
“His leadership in federal cybersecurity, policy development, and operational execution will be invaluable as we continue to support government agencies.” Under Epperson’s guidance, Keeper Security aims to enhance its service offerings, ensuring that both federal and private sectors remain resilient against potential intrusions and data breaches.
In addition to his government service, Epperson is passionate about education equity. He founded and chairs the Senior Advisory Board for the PROPEL Science Foundation, which seeks to improve STEM education opportunities for underserved youth. As a U.S. Army veteran, he has a long-standing commitment to mentoring the next generation of cybersecurity experts, an endeavor that aligns perfectly with Keeper Security’s mission to safeguard organizational assets while promoting cybersecurity awareness.
