New Coworking Space 'Minami no Madoguchi' Launches in Tachikawa for Community Engagement

New Coworking Space 'Minami no Madoguchi' in Tachikawa

Tachikawa City is witnessing the launch of an innovative coworking space, "Minami no Madoguchi" ("Everyone's Window to the South"), initiated by Keyaki Publishing. This project, which started as an experimental phase, will continue until the end of June and aims to evaluate the feasibility of a permanent coworking space in the southern area of Tachikawa Station.

What is 'Minami no Madoguchi'?

The "Minami no Madoguchi" project, located near the bustling southern exit of Tachikawa Station, is designed to enhance both the vibrancy and the circulatory movement within the area. The southern exit is home to ten different shopping streets, including the Minami-guchi Central Shopping Street and the Nishiki Shopping Street, boasting around 500 unique shops ranging from long-standing ramen shops originating from the Taisho era to engaging sports facilities and trending gourmet restaurants that can solely be found in the South Exit area.

This initiative highlights the unique content of the South Exit, organizing community-specific events and providing direct opportunities for locals and visitors to explore the diverse commercial offerings.

'Shōtengai no Tana': A Fun Space for Exploring Local Businesses

The "Shōtengai no Tana" ("Shopping Street Shelves") initiative establishes sections for each of the ten shopping streets in the Minami no Madoguchi space. It serves as a mini shopping district where visitors can find shop cards, brochures, and campaign information. The intention here is to pique interest among the visitors, encouraging them to explore the surrounding shopping streets by discovering shops and current campaigns.

Staff members will regularly gather information from local shopping streets, and there will be a large thematic map near the entrance, highlighting local businesses each month. For instance, June's theme is focused on showcasing coffee shops, bakeries, and sweet shops.

Benefits of the Community-Focused Coworking Concept

Located on the third floor with easy access via a pedestrian deck from Tachikawa Station, Minami no Madoguchi also functions as a coworking space. It features a welcoming area with eight power supply-enabled table seats and complimentary Wi-Fi. Beyond the table area, an expansive grassy section provides an inviting atmosphere for brainstorming sessions or relaxation when seeking fresh ideas. Private booths, known as "Desk Boxes," are also available for those who desire focused online meetings or solitary work.

Importantly, while using the coworking space, patrons are encouraged to support local businesses. After purchasing items or food from "LULU Terrace," located on the first floor of the nearby Koto Link, patrons must present their purchase receipts (within one week of purchase) to gain access to the coworking space. This initiative aims to motivate community members to visit local storefronts while creating a valuable networking opportunity.

Meet 'Minatora': The Mascot of Community Exploration

To enhance the engagement of local residents and visitors alike, the Minami no Madoguchi space incorporates a character named Minatora, created to represent the unique shops throughout the area. Minatora is associated with the trading card series called “TachiMon Card,” which features local business owners and stores transformed into monsters. A corresponding YouTube channel named “Zenryoku! Tachikawa Minami” introduces exciting local shops through engaging videos, promoting physical visits.

Events to Promote Local Commerce

In addition, special events are planned, such as the "TachiMon Card Battle Day" during summer and winter breaks—designed especially for children. This initiative will encourage local youth involvement, promoting the fun of the TachiMon Cards throughout the region. Events at the Suwa no Mori Square are scheduled to be conducted four times a year, providing entertaining experiences for both children and adults.

On July 12, a summer festival themed "Suwa no Mori MARKET" will bring various activities, including shooting galleries, traditional summer performances, and local resources to celebrate community spirit. Detailed event information will be available through the BALL.WEB MAGAZINE.

Join the Movement: Volunteer Opportunities

As the "Minami no Madoguchi" continues to evolve, Keyaki Publishing is seeking volunteers who want to engage in activities fostering regional community development. The roles can include event planning, photography, information collection, and facility management, inviting anyone interested in community-oriented efforts to get involved.

In anticipation of continuous development and to solidify this community-focused coworking environment, a review will be conducted based on feedback from the experimental phase, ensuring that it effectively meets public needs.
