Niutech Partners with Leading Energy Firm for Plastic Waste Pyrolysis Project

Niutech Enters New Partnership for Sustainable Aviation Fuel Production

Niutech Technology Group Co., Ltd., a leading provider of industrial solutions specializing in continuous pyrolysis, has recently inked a significant contract with a prominent global energy company. This partnership revolves around the establishment of a production facility dedicated to the continuous pyrolysis of plastic waste, aiming to produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

Contract Overview

The newly signed agreement outlines the construction of an industrial production unit capable of processing between 10,000 and 50,000 tons of plastic waste annually. Utilizing Niutech's proprietary technology, this facility will not only refurbish one of the customer’s large refineries but will also facilitate a continuous production line that transforms pyrolysis oil derived from plastic waste into hydrous Sustainable Aviation Fuel.

This marks Niutech's inaugural foray into this energy supplier’s supply chain, emphasizing their commitment to innovative waste-to-energy solutions. The importance of SAF cannot be overstated; it represents a crucial pathway towards decarbonizing the aviation sector large-scale, responding to global climate objectives.

The Importance of Sustainable Aviation Fuel

As climate change continues to drive demand for sustainable fuels, EU regulations are pushing for increased SAF utilization. The ‘ReFuelEU-Aviation’ regulation mandates that the share of SAF in aviation fuel must rise from 2% in 2025 to 6% by 2030, and ultimately reach 70% by 2050. With a limited supply of used cooking oil (UCO), which is traditionally converted into SAF, the conversion of plastic waste into SAF presents an attractive second-route alternative.

Niutech’s unique approach involves directly converting lower-grade plastic waste—including polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), polystyrene (PS), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), and nylon—into pyrolysis oil suitable for SAF production. Notably, this process eliminates the need for extensive pre-processing steps such as cleaning, sorting, or drying, thereby enhancing efficiency.

Proven Technology and Global Reach

Stepping up to meet the growing demand for sustainable fuel solutions, Niutech's pyrolysis technology has a proven track record, already in commercial operation in countries including the UK, South Korea, Denmark, Thailand, Vietnam, and China. The results have been impressive, showing multiple continuous pyrolysis projects with annual processing capacities of around 10,000 tons.

As highlighted by a marketing leader at Niutech, large-scale pyrolysis projects entail stringent operational reliability requirements. With nearly 40 years of expertise in pyrolysis technology, Niutech has developed mature equipment and a wealth of hands-on project experience. This partnership with a global energy major serves as a testament to the robustness of their industrial continuous technology.
