Autoliv and RS Taichi Join Forces to Enhance Rider Safety with Airbag Vests

Autoliv and RS Taichi Collaborate on Rider Safety Initiative

In a groundbreaking move to enhance rider safety, Autoliv, Inc. has developed its first full wearable protective solution specifically for motorcycles. This innovative product integrates an airbag system into a vest, aiming to minimize serious injury risks in the event of a collision. This latest initiative comes through a collaboration with RS Taichi, a reputable manufacturer of motorcycle riding gear based in Japan, marking a significant entry into the market.

The partnership aims to bolster Autoliv's portfolio of motorcycle and bicycle safety solutions, extending beyond their core product lines, which include airbags, seat belts, and steering wheels for passenger vehicles. This strategic collaboration reflects Autoliv’s commitment to explore further growth opportunities within diverse sectors.

By venturing into motorcycle rider protection, Autoliv demonstrates its eagerness to drive innovation and diversify its market presence. The cooperation with RS Taichi is viewed as a pivotal milestone in delivering cutting-edge rider protection solutions. This initiative adds to Autoliv’s recently announced airbag solutions for Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd.'s Tricity 300, further reinforcing the company's strategic agenda.

Previously, Autoliv provided standalone components for airbag vests. Now, the new airbag system adopted in RS Taichi's T-SABE (Motorcycle Riding Airbag Vest) has been developed in-house by Autoliv, ensuring a comprehensive approach from concept design to system validation. RS Taichi, leveraging its expertise in riding gear, has enhanced the performance of the vest to cater to the needs of Japanese riders, ensuring a high-quality wearable protection system.

Fabien Dumont, Chief Technology Officer of Autoliv, remarked, "Our collaboration with RS Taichi marks an important milestone in our commitment to enhance mobility safety and develop state-of-the-art protection systems for motorcycle riders. By working closely with partners like RS Taichi, who design and manufacture rider gear, we can embed proven safety technology into our products and elevate rider protection to new heights."

Yoshihiko Yoshimura, President of RS Taichi, added, "Since our inception, RS Taichi has prioritized rider safety and aimed to create gear that enhances riding comfort. Partnering with Autoliv, a leader in global safety standards, combines our passion for manufacturing riding gear with their expertise in safety technology. T-SABE not only protects riders but also contributes to a comfortable and safe riding experience, fostering a long-lasting motorcycle lifestyle."

Motorcycle crash scenarios are dynamic and unpredictable, necessitating an advanced protective system that operates reliably. Autoliv’s new wearable airbag system utilizes data-driven safety research and expertise in biomechanics, along with a stringent validation process, directly applied to motorcycle applications.

This airbag system is designed to be integrated into multiple apparel designs, allowing for optimization tailored to various riding styles and market segments. Such an approach aligns with Autoliv's long-term vision of delivering flexible and high-performance safety solutions to meet the diverse needs of global markets.

The T-SABE vest from RS Taichi will be officially unveiled at the 53rd Tokyo Motorcycle Show 2026, scheduled for March 27-29, 2026.
