Huawei and the Moroccan Government's DigiSchool Initiative
Huawei has recently announced the successful completion of its DigiSchool 2024 initiative in Morocco, a milestone that reflects the company's commitment to enhancing digital access for students nationwide. Launched in February 2024, this project is crucial in preparing future generations for the demands of an increasingly interconnected world and aligns with the Moroccan government's education reform roadmap for 2022-2026.
The DigiSchool initiative represents a collaborative effort between Huawei Morocco and the Moroccan Ministry of National Education, Preschool Education, and Sports, aimed at addressing the digital divide and promoting technological inclusivity through its global TECH4ALL initiative. David Li, General Manager of Huawei Morocco, emphasized the importance of strengthening digital skills through public-private partnerships, stating that the DigiSchool initiative is pivotal in fostering a resilient digital ecosystem in Morocco.
The project aimed at enhancing digital literacy, involves training students and teachers in crucial technological domains such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), web technologies, and application development. Throughout the year, participants engaged in hands-on experiences with robotics and coding, participated in technology-related challenges, and improved their digital literacy through interactive games designed to inspire creativity and innovation.
Organized in four phases, the DigiSchool 2024 project began with training 265 secondary school teachers across 12 regions in Morocco. The second phase focused on providing ongoing support to the teachers as they implemented their training in classrooms, benefiting around 2,650 students. During the third phase, 12 regional hackathons were conducted, encouraging 714 students to devise ICT solutions to pressing local challenges. Finally, the fourth phase included technology bootcamps held in Fès, Marrakech, and Agadir, allowing 180 students and 60 teachers from across Morocco to further hone their ICT skills acquired earlier.
Additionally, participants received tailored support to enhance their hackathon projects, which were presented to a panel of judges, with winning solutions recognized and rewarded.
The initiative culminated in a visit to Agadir from December 17-19, where educational leaders, including Mohamed Saad Berrada, Morocco's Minister of National Education, assessed the progress of the bootcamp. During this evaluation, students had the opportunity to showcase the innovative solutions they developed, demonstrating their newly acquired digital competencies.
The success of DigiSchool 2024 highlights the Moroccan government's unwavering commitment to digitizing national education and ensuring inclusivity and equity in its educational landscape. It serves as a regional exemplar of how technology can promote equity and progress, values that Huawei shares.
In conjunction with operating DigiSchool projects in countries like Kenya, Senegal, South Africa, Chile, and China, Huawei remains dedicated to connecting remote schools to the internet and boosting both student and teacher digital competencies. The TECH4ALL initiative is Huawei's long-term commitment to fostering digital inclusion, leveraging innovative technologies and partnerships to create sustainable digital futures.
