Yasuda Warehouse Starts Operations of Autonomous Robotics System at Daikoku Distribution Center

Introduction

Yasuda Warehouse Corporation, headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, has announced the operational commencement of the Rapyuta PA-AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robot) at its Daikoku Distribution Center in Yokohama, following its initial deployment at the Atsugi Sales Office. This innovative picking assist robot, developed by Rapyuta Robotics, aims to bolster logistics efficiency across Yasuda's operations.

Background of Implementation

In 2023, Yasuda Warehouse integrated the Rapyuta PA-AMR at the Atsugi Sales Office, deriving significant operational efficiencies. The decision to deploy the robot at the Daikoku Distribution Center capitalized on the experience gained at the first site, alongside a tailored adaptation of features required for logistical operations specific to the site.

Key Highlights of Rapyuta PA-AMR Implementation

1. Optimizing Picking Efficiency

Prior to the PA-AMR's rollout, a Proof of Concept (PoC) was conducted in real working conditions to enhance picking operations. Compared to previous methods, the robot allows for shorter processing times with fewer personnel, doubling the productivity rates seen earlier. This flexibility in workforce deployment enables Yasuda Warehouse to allocate human resources to more value-added tasks, thus achieving a holistic optimization within operations.

2. Installation Without Altering Storage Layout

The introduction of the PA-AMR was notably seamless, maintaining the previously designed narrow aisle width which maximized storage efficiency. This adaptability allowed Yasuda to significantly enhance productivity without compromising on storage capacity, marking a pivotal factor in the decision-making process.

3. Stable Operations through Robust Design

To facilitate consistent outcomes irrespective of the operator’s experience level, the picking operations were designed to have the robot issue commands to human workers. This approach established a standardized, efficient workflow, fostering quality managerial controls and ensuring stable operations even during varying workload demands. Sustainability within logistics is now more achievable as a result.

4. Empowering DX Personnel through Data Utilization

The effective use of on-site operational data fosters an environment of transparency and analytical assessment, contributing to the nurturing of personnel steeped in digital transformation capabilities. Yasuda aims to enhance its on-site management by focusing on data-driven approaches, driving operational excellence.

Comments on the Implementation

Managerial Insight from Yasuda Warehouse

Manager Rei Hiraoka and Rei Ishikawa, overseeing the Daikoku Distribution Center, expressed their trust in Rapyuta Robotics based on successful outcomes realized at the Atsugi Sales Office. Despite some specific challenges such as aisle width at the Daikoku center, the PA-AMR emerged as the best option for implementation, supported by meticulous feedback from on-site staff during the integration process.
