Celebrating Earth and Space: A Unique Event
On August 1, 2026, the Pal System Cooperative Federation, in cooperation with Meiji University’s Kobayashi Seminar, will host an extraordinary event titled "Borderless from Space - A Planet of Life-Circling Green and Water." Set to occur from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM at Meiji University's Liberty Tower, this event can also be joined online, allowing participants from near and far to engage in discussions about Earth's vitality and the wonders of space.
A Gathering of Minds
The event will feature exciting talks from renowned figures in the field of space exploration and animation. Among the speakers will be
Takao Doi, Japan's first astronaut to perform a spacewalk, and
Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, the character designer and director famed for his work on the acclaimed animated series
Mobile Suit Gundam. Their insights will illuminate the relationship between our planet’s resources and the vastness of the universe.
In particular, Takao Doi will share his experiences regarding the challenges and achievements of human activities in space, focusing on the installation of Japan’s KIBO facility on the International Space Station. After his talk, the discussion will continue with a cross-talk session featuring Yasuhiko, moderated by writer
Kimiyo Hayashi, who has co-authored books on space and astronomy.
Reflections on Nature’s Resources
The core aim of this event is to reflect upon the invaluable natural resources such as water, air, and ecosystems that make life possible on Earth. Participants will explore the significance of these elements, which are often taken for granted. The program will also touch upon ongoing research regarding human migration to space and address the complexities of replicating Earth’s environment beyond our planet.
Student Presentations
In addition to the esteemed guest speakers, students from Meiji University’s Kobayashi Seminar will present their findings on environmental issues, further enriching the dialogue. Their presentations will focus on Ecuador's groundbreaking legislation recognizing the rights of nature, set against the backdrop of a discussion on sustainable living. This collaboration between Pal System and the seminar has developed since 2022, emphasizing food resource conservation initiatives.

Profile of Speakers
Takao Doi
Graduated from the University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Engineering in 1983. An astronaut who has engaged in pivotal missions in space, including being the first Japanese to conduct a spacewalk in 1997 and the installation of Japan's KIBO module in 2008. Doi has made significant contributions to promoting space science and technology.
Yoshikazu Yasuhiko
A distinguished character designer and anime director, Yasuhiko played a critical role in the original
Mobile Suit Gundam. He also gained recognition for his manga works and has continued to influence the industry with his creativity throughout the years.
Kimiyo Hayashi
With extensive experience in space journalism, Hayashi has written extensively in the fields of astronomy and space exploration. Her works bridge the gap between the general public and complex scientific ideas, enabling a greater appreciation of our universe.
