Experience Korean Webtoons in Tokyo: The K-WEBTOON Exhibit
The K-WEBTOON exhibition aptly titled '縦に読む物語 K-WEBTOON展' is officially opened on January 30, 2026, at the Gallery MI in Tokyo, Japan. Hosted by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism along with the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) and the Korean Cultural Center in Japan, this event is showcasing the vibrant world of Korean webtoons until February 28. With over 20 renowned webtoon works, including 11 winners of the 'WORLD WEBTOON AWARDS 2025', the exhibit promises to be an exciting venture into this unique narrative style that has captivated audiences globally.
On its opening day, the exhibition witnessed a whirlwind of activity, including a special talk show featuring popular webtoon authors. This event not only attracted a significant number of visitors but also intrigued industry professionals, setting a positive tone for the upcoming weeks.
Highlights from the Exhibition
Among the star attractions are celebrated webtoons such as 'Hell', 'Yumi's Cells', and 'I Am Suffering from a Disease That Makes Me Unable to Debut'. Visitors have shown enthusiastic responses to these eye-catching displays. One Japanese fan who visited with her mother shared, “I usually discover works through platforms like Kakao Piccoma and LINE Manga, but I became a fan of this particular webtoon after reading its novel version. I had fun taking photos with my plush toys and souvenirs. The exhibition was really satisfying!”
The displays of 'Hell' and 'Yumi's Cells' also experienced long visitor stays, with many expressing delight at the chance to experience familiar works as webtoons in an exhibition context. One visitor commented, “It was refreshing to see a piece I had known as a video adaptation presented as a webtoon exhibit.”
Engaging and Interactive Content
In addition to visual showcases, the K-WEBTOON exhibition offers a wealth of interactive experiences for attendees. Participants can create original badges embellished with custom illustrations, while there are also coloring activities featuring exclusive new artworks from 'Yumi's Cells'. Notably, the exhibition is designed to appeal to a diverse audience, from children to adults, fostering a deeper connection with the creative works on display.
Visitors also have the opportunity to receive limited edition posters of the award-winning webtoon as a souvenir upon entry. Additionally, special postcards are available for those who complete feedback surveys, providing a unique collectible that many attendees have found appealing.
The staff organized guided tours to enhance understanding and appreciation of the exhibits. These tours aim to explain the unique characteristics of webtoons, background stories behind the works, and important points of interest in a clear and approachable way.
Whether you're merely observing, learning, creating, or collecting memories, this exhibition fully embraces and displays the charm of K-WEBTOONs.
