The Launch of the Self-Depilation Salon Safety Initiative
The Self-Depilation Association, based in Tokyo's Chuo Ward, has teamed up with Heiji Co., which operates the self-depilation salon brand Heiji, to introduce the "Self-Depilation Salon Safety Project". This initiative is designed to ensure transparent and safe operations in the self-depilation salon industry while also encouraging interested salons to join in this mission.
Purpose and Goals of the Project
The purpose of this project is to establish clear standards regarding hygiene management, transparency, and information disclosure in the operation of self-depilation salons. By doing so, the association aims to support salons that operate with integrity and earn the trust of their clients. A noteworthy participant in this project is i-Skin, a nationwide chain of unmanned self-depilation salons.
To create a safer environment for users, the association has developed its own guidelines known as the "Five Principles of the Self-Depilation Salon Safety Project". This framework targets improving transparency among reliable salons and restoring trust within the entire industry.
Five Principles of the Self-Depilation Salon Safety Project
1.
Commitment to Honest Operations: Prioritize genuine service to users, avoiding any misleading or inaccurate representations.
2.
Compliance with Hygiene and Safety Management: Establish clear hygiene standards and safety management guidelines to maintain a clean and secure salon environment at all times.
3.
Provision of Accurate Information: Offer clear and precise information about fees, treatment types, and associated risks, creating a trusting atmosphere for clients to make informed choices.
4.
Promotion of Education and Awareness: Continuously provide staff training and workshops focused on preventing issues, thereby elevating the overall knowledge and standards within the industry.
5.
Trust-Building with Society: Collaborate with local authorities, media, and communities to promote the healthy development of the self-depilation sector and regain trust.

Heiji's Vision
Keiji Ogawa, representative of Heiji, expressed:
"Self-depilation is a wonderful experience that allows individuals to feel happier about themselves and improve their image. However, the recent bankruptcies of major salons have left an impactful negative perception in the public's mind. Heiji aims to transform this industry and make self-depilation accessible to everyone. We believe that the advancement of self-depilation services will contribute to the overall recovery and growth of the industry. Through the Self-Depilation Salon Safety Project, we are collaborating with other salons to improve the self-depilation environment and raise awareness. We aim for a future where self-depilation is a normal and approachable service for all."
Contributions to the Self-Depilation Safety Initiative
Both i-Skin and Heiji have put forth various initiatives to support the safety and accessibility of self-depilation services:
- - No Long-term Contracts: Clients can cancel anytime without penalties.
- - No Aggressive Sales Pitches: There’s no pressure to sign long-term contracts.
- - 24/7 Easy Booking System: Clients can easily book appointments at any time.
- - Compensation Plans for Affected Clients: Offering relief programs for users of closed salons.
Additional Support Plans
In response to the recent closure of many major salons, Heiji has also launched a relief project targeted at former members impacted by these closures, offering complimentary self-depilation services for a limited duration. This program is aimed at providing a safe environment for individuals looking to continue their self-depilation journey.
Application Process for the Relief Project
The relief program accepts applications from November 1 to December 31 through a dedicated form. Eligible participants can receive complimentary treatments for up to three months, allowing them to experience monthly sessions and alleviate financial strains caused by the salon closures.
