Discovering the Future of Healthcare and Welfare
Bunkyo Gakuin University Graduate School of Welfare and Medical Management is set to host a public seminar series this summer, aimed at addressing the future of health and welfare in our society. Seminar Highlights
The first seminar, titled "Supporting a Flourishing Society through Health and Welfare," will take place on
July 27, 2026, from 18:30 to 20:00. Dr. Mari Urabe, an accomplished physician and representative director of Uzawa International Academy, will present her insights, inheriting the concepts of "social common capital" as proposed by her father, economist Hirofumi Uzawa. Participants can attend in person at
Bunkyo Gakuin University, Room 605, or join online, ensuring accessibility for everyone interested.
The second session, titled "Building a Society that Coexists with Dementia," is scheduled for
August 6, 2026, from 15:00 to 17:00. This seminar will feature Dr. Hideki Wada, a leading expert in geriatric psychiatry and author of numerous bestsellers, including "The 80-Year-Old Wall." This session aims to foster discussions on how society can adapt to coexist with individuals facing dementia challenges.

Profiles of the Speakers
Dr.
Mari Urabe is a physician and the representative director of Uzawa International Academy. She graduated from Jikei University School of Medicine and later worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Urabe is committed to disseminating the concept of social common capital and is actively involved in initiatives aimed at enhancing community health standards.
Dr.
Hideki Wada, a graduate of the University of Tokyo Faculty of Medicine, specializes in geriatric psychiatry and elderly care. He serves as an advisor at Kawasaki Saki Hospital and as the director of Wada Hideki Clinic. Dr. Wada is renowned for his extensive research on dementia and aging health, contributing over 950 publications.
