The 26th YKK Fastening Awards: A Celebration of Talent

On October 29, 2023, the much-anticipated 26th YKK Fastening Awards took place at the YKK 60 Building in Tokyo. This prestigious fashion design contest, aimed at students using fastening products, attracted an impressive total of 9,502 entries. The event featured both a fashion show and an awards ceremony, showcasing thirty selected designs from a competitive pool of submissions that included 7,563 apparel entries and 1,939 fashion accessory creations.

The awards were fiercely contested, with top honors in the Apparel category going to Soujou Taniguchi from Bunkafashion Graduate School, who earned the grand prize for his innovative design titled “From Mind to Form.” Additionally, the Fashion Accessories category saw Reiya Kaneshiro from Heiko Mizuno College of Jewelry win not only the grand prize but also the Circular Design Special Award for his outstanding creation, “YKK/Yield Kernel Kicks.” Each grand prize winner received a trophy and a cash award of 1 million yen, alongside various prizes, including a unique order rights to YKK fastening products worth 50,000 yen and a sewing machine from JUKI Corporation.

The awards ceremony was graced by a special guest appearance from Miku Imamura, a previous winner of the Apparel category in the 15th YKK Fastening Awards. She showcased a collection from her brand, “MIKI IMAMURA”. The runway filled with her designs captured the audience's attention, serving as an inspiring moment for budding designers and a highlight of the evening's events.
