Explore the Richness of Contemporary Art at Amorepacific Museum's Special Exhibition
The Amorepacific Museum of Art, under the stewardship of Director Seungchang Jeon, is thrilled to announce its upcoming exhibition, "APMA, CHAPTER FIVE – FROM THE APMA COLLECTION." This remarkable showcase of contemporary artworks will be on display from April 1 to August 2, 2026, welcoming both art aficionados and the general public to delve into an expansive collection that represents a significant cross-section of modern artistry.
This exhibition will feature approximately 80 works created by an eclectic group of over 40 internationally acclaimed artists. Renowned figures such as Kiki Smith, British painter Rose Wylie, and conceptual sculptor Carol Bove will have their masterpieces shared with audiences, alongside influential Korean artists like Nam June Paik and Lee Bul. Each participating artist brings their unique voice and vision, contributing to a rich tapestry that reflects the diversity in contemporary artistic expression.
Kiki Smith's oeuvre, which often addresses themes of life, death, and the interplay of femininity and nature, promises to be a highlight. Similarly, Rose Wylie is known for her innovative approach using everyday imagery to create captivating narratives within her paintings. Contemporary sculptor Carol Bove expands upon traditional concepts of sculpture using industrial materials, creating visually striking installations.
In addition, the exhibition offers audiences a rare opportunity to engage with significant works by Nam June Paik, who is revered for his role in establishing video art as an independent genre. His installation "Kon-Tiki," alongside the first public presentation of his "TV Vertical Flower" in over two decades, stands testament to his enduring legacy in the art world.
Haegue Yang's recent creation, "Stacked Corners – Ventilated Square of Orange and Blue," represents the ongoing evolution of contemporary art, utilizing concepts that bridge different media and societal themes. Furthermore, "The Secret Sharer" by Lee Bul unveils the intricate stories that explore human anxieties against the backdrop of modern civilization, effectively challenging perceptions of self and society.
As the exhibition unfolds, it not only presents a platform for established artworks but also examines the transformative nature of Korean contemporary art—from the canvases of Dansaekhwa to broader themes encompassing diverse mediums. Highlights of the exhibition invite visitors to ponder the nuances of artistic experimentation that emerge in response to historical and cultural shifts.
The Amorepacific Museum of Art aims to make this exhibition more accessible through additional programming. Visitors can take part in guided tours led by curators, designed to enhance engagement with the collection and offer deeper insights into the works and their creators. Moreover, an advanced program known as "With Curator Professional" will provide participants with an in-depth exploration into the themes and techniques of contemporary art featured in this exhibition.
Located in Seoul, South Korea, the Amorepacific Museum of Art invites the public to visit from 10 AM to 6 PM daily, except Mondays.
