Celebrating Earth Day 2025: Angel Yeast and the Green Production Revolution

Celebrating Earth Day 2025 with Angel Yeast

As Earth Day approaches, the world gears up for its 56th annual celebration with the theme "OUR POWER, OUR PLANET." This year, the focus is on renewable energy and collective efforts to triple global clean energy generation by 2030. With this in mind, Angel Yeast (DEHONG) Co., Ltd. is stepping forward to embody this movement through remarkable sustainability initiatives at their plant in Yichang, China.

Angel Yeast's Commitment to Sustainability

On April 2, 2025, Angel Yeast Dehong officially received certification as a Class I, three-star "Zero Carbon Factory" from the China Quality Certification Centre. This designation marks Angel Yeast's first zero-emission manufacturing facility, a significant milestone in its dedication to environmentally friendly and low-carbon practices.

A "Zero Carbon Factory" is characterized by advanced eco-friendly methods that minimize greenhouse gas emissions. Angel Yeast integrates energy-saving technologies, utilizes renewable energy sources, and offsets remaining emissions through carbon-neutral projects, demonstrating their commitment to achieving a minimal carbon footprint. The DEHONG factory's certification emphasizes substantial self-reduction and compensation, requiring over 50% for residual emissions.

Comprehensive Carbon Reduction Strategies

DEHONG has implemented an extensive range of strategies to curtail carbon outputs throughout its production cycle. This includes photovoltaic power generation and biomass energy substitution, creating an exemplary model for sustainable manufacturing within the Angel Yeast global framework.

Wu Xiaofeng, the Assistant General Manager and Head of the Production Management Department at Angel Yeast, explained that energy efficiency and emission reduction are foundational to their growth strategy. Through innovation, Angel Yeast has devised a holistic carbon reduction framework that encompasses product design and greenhouse gas reduction measures, actively making their production processes greener with advanced energy-saving technologies.

Advancements in Clean Energy Initiatives

In 2024, Angel Yeast's carbon reduction initiatives yielded transformative results, transitioning to cleaner energy sources, which contributed to reducing carbon emissions by 210,500 tons. This was largely facilitated by the use of 129,673 megawatt-hours of green electricity, which alone accounted for a 72,200-ton reduction in carbon emissions. The company also made headway in the installation of photovoltaic power plants and in progressing toward biomass energy for steam generation.

Notably, Angel Yeast produced 176.7 megawatt-hours of electricity from solar sources and sourced approximately 122,800 tons of biomass steam, indirectly lowering carbon dioxide emissions by 37,500 tons in just one year. Through pioneering biomass projects, the company utilized 33,600 tons of biomass fuel, achieving a remarkable reduction of 40,900 tons in carbon emissions. Additionally, subsidiaries deployed technologies to recover and utilize biogas, resulting in the transformation of 28.26 million cubic meters of biogas into steam for production, which further decreased carbon emissions by 59,900 tons.

As the company continues to enhance its energy-saving technologies and assess carbon reduction efforts across its operations, the completion of energy-saving technology transformation projects in 2024 led to substantial annual savings in electricity, water, and steam consumption, cumulatively reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 13,500 tons.

A Call to Global Partners

Angel Yeast is extending an invitation to global partners to join them in this clean energy transition and to foster environmental innovation. Looking ahead, the company is committed to establishing additional zero-carbon factories, advancing green technologies, improving energy efficiency, and further minimizing emissions.

Angel Yeast's unwavering commitment to sustainability not only underlines their corporate responsibility but also sets a significant benchmark for the industry. Join them this Earth Day in championing a sustainable future, where collective action and innovative practices lead to a healthier planet for generations to come.
