Generate Capital Secures $117 Million Financing for Community Solar Projects with MUFG

Generate Capital, a prominent player in sustainable infrastructure investment, has achieved a significant milestone by closing a $117 million term debt facility in collaboration with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG). This agreement, finalized on September 15, 2026, marks Generate's inaugural foray into community solar financing with MUFG and is part of a broader strategy to enhance its network of institutional financing partners.

The funds will be allocated to Generate's Community Solar Fund 11, an ambitious initiative encompassing 18 projects throughout Illinois and New York, amounting to a total generation capacity of 114 MWdc. This financing not only aids in creating community-driven solar power solutions but also makes strides toward expanding reliable and affordable power access for various communities and businesses.

Ed Bossange, Chief Capital Formation Officer at Generate Capital, expressed optimism regarding the partnership with MUFG, stating, "The closing of this facility with MUFG further expands our financing partner network and provides additional capital to support the continued growth of our community solar platform." He further emphasized that this development aligns with the substantial financing activities Generate executed in the first half of 2026, showcasing the platform’s strength and its uncommon ability to attract capital from leading institutions.

Fred Zelaya, Managing Director at MUFG, echoed Bossange's sentiments, affirming the successful collaboration to enhance community solar initiatives. He highlighted Generate's established reputation for developing and managing high-quality distributed energy assets, which signifies a mutual commitment to financing vital infrastructure that delivers consistent and affordable energy to communities nationwide.

The year 2026 has shown positive momentum for Generate Capital in terms of capital formation. Within just the first half of the year, the firm managed to close approximately $1.4 billion in financing commitments, securing a diversified portfolio that spans across community solar, battery energy storage systems, and energy efficiency projects. Noteworthy transactions include:
  • - A sizable 104 MW community solar portfolio developed in conjunction with Monarch Private Capital, projected to deliver around $200 million in investment tax credits across over 15 different community solar projects.
  • - A $61 million senior secured U.S. Private Placement for financing energy efficiency projects aimed at a leading investment-grade industrial client. This significant financing marks Generate's first venture into 4(a)2 U.S. Private Placements, effectively diversifying the company's funding sources and partnership base.

This recent wave of financing by Generate underscores the growing institutional interest in high-quality infrastructure assets that provide stable cash flows over the long term. The ability to structure flexible financing solutions across various sectors is a testament to Generate's strategic positioning within the infrastructure landscape.
