SANYO Shokai Achieves Top Supplier Engagement Rating for Two Consecutive Years

SANYO Shokai's Remarkable Achievement in Sustainability



SANYO Shokai, headquartered in Shinjuku, Tokyo, has earned the esteemed title of “Supplier Engagement Leader” from the CDP for the second consecutive year following their evaluation for 2025. This prestigious recognition underscores the company’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and climate action within its supply chain.

CDP, or Carbon Disclosure Project, is a global non-profit organization that evaluates the environmental impact of corporations and their efforts in combating climate change. In their Supplier Engagement Ratings, companies are assessed across five major categories: goal setting, supplier engagement, Scope 3 emissions, risk management processes, and governance. To receive the highest rating of 'A,' a company must demonstrate outstanding performance in these areas. SANYO Shokai has excelled in this evaluation and achieved a commendable 'A-' score in the climate change category of the 2025 CDP questionnaire, further solidifying its role as a leader in corporate sustainability.

Commitment to Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions



Starting in 2023, SANYO Shokai has placed environmental sustainability at the forefront of its business operations. The company’s target is to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as part of its climate change strategy. Specifically, it aims to cut Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 52% compared to 2019 levels by 2030, while also planning to reduce Scope 3 emissions (categories 1, 3, 4, and 12) by 30%. Furthermore, SANYO Shokai aspires to achieve net-zero GHG emissions for Scope 1 and 2 by 2050.

In pursuit of these ambitious goals, SANYO Shokai received certification from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in March 2025, validating their targets as scientifically grounded and effective in mitigating climate change.

Creating a Model for GHG Emissions Reduction



As part of its strategy to meet Scope 3 reduction targets, SANYO Shokai focuses on implementing a model for its own sewing factories, namely Sanyo Sewing Aomori Factory and Fukushima Factory. Regular inspections of the factories’ equipment are conducted to manage and quantify GHG emissions effectively. The factory managers collaborate to identify challenges and develop plans for emissions reduction, contributing to environmental problem-solving through modeling its operations.

In 2023, SANYO Shokai engaged all factory employees in information-sharing meetings, fostering initiatives that lead to minimized cost and resource use, enhanced energy efficiency, digital transformation, and reduction of waste. Notably, efforts include switching to zero-emission power sources and reducing waste generation.

Engaging the Supply Chain for Sustainable Solutions



To ensure the successful implementation of these initiatives, SANYO Shokai aims to create a sustainable system by sharing the results of its factory modeling efforts across the entire supply chain. In 2024, they will initiate dialogues with major suppliers focusing on GHG reduction strategies.

The company also adheres to its own “SANYO Code of Conduct,” which includes third-party audits for supplier evaluation. This evaluation assesses compliance with environmental regulations and cooperative contributions to GHG reduction efforts. Following this evaluation, SANYO provides guidance for improvements to elevate suppliers to the A rank of their unique standards.

Collaborative Climate Change Actions



In collaboration with industry associations, SANYO Shokai has participated in forming guidelines for assessing GHG emissions across supply chains. This effort, led by the Japan Fashion and Apparel Industry Council (JAFIC), aims to provide a framework for the fashion industry to approach GHG reduction. The guidelines were developed with support from the Ministry of the Environment, focusing on estimating reduction amounts and rates.

Additionally, SANYO Shokai has joined the new resource circulation platform “CicroMate.” This platform focuses on efficiently collecting and recycling waste plastic generated during transportation in the apparel logistics sector, promoting sustainable packaging practices.

Through these extensive efforts, SANYO Shokai reinforces its dedication to climate change mitigation throughout its supply chain. The company's overarching goal is to significantly contribute to realizing a sustainable society through comprehensive engagement in environmental practices.
