SON Estrella Galicia Posidonia Celebrates 10 Unique Years

SON Estrella Galicia Posidonia is commemorating its 10th anniversary from October 2 to 4 on the stunning island of Formentera in the Mediterranean, standing out as one of the most distinctive music festivals. This anniversary edition will reflect on its history while continuing to evolve, aiming to Rediscover Posidonia and reintroducing artists and venues that have defined its journey, alongside the introduction of fresh talent.

Throughout the last decade, the festival has carved a path away from traditional formulas, featuring a secret lineup that brings established acts and emerging global talents together at unexpected venues. This intimate gathering limits attendance to 350 participants, intertwining music with local gastronomy, beer culture, an understanding of the surroundings, and a commitment to environmental sustainability in a narrative that captivates attendees.

Formentera is much more than just the festival’s location; it is the true star of the event. Each iteration provides opportunities to explore and understand the island through concerts, guided tours, and activities led by experts who know Formentera best. The project boasts over 30 routes on land and sea led by more than 50 local guides, covering over 60 kilometers on foot, while collaborating with more than 140 local businesses and agents. The culinary offerings associated with the festival involve over 30 restaurants and chefs emphasizing local products.

This connection with the environment translates into a positive impact strategy that is continually refined. SON Estrella Galicia Posidonia holds the unique distinction of being the only music festival globally to have earned the TRUE Zero Waste Platinum certification for three consecutive years from Green Business Certification Inc. The last edition achieved an impressive waste diversion rate of 99.3%. Additionally, since 2021, it has been a zero-emissions event, promoting shared mobility and local cooperation, and supporting Save Posidonia Project to protect oceanic Posidonia grass, which is essential for the island's ecosystem.

Over nine editions, Posidonia has hosted 78 artists, 83 concerts, and 17 DJ sets, showcasing talents such as The Vaccines, Jorge Drexler, Roosevelt, Baiuca, and many more. This journey demonstrates that a festival can grow while maintaining close ties with its community, integrating itself into its surroundings, and generating cultural, social, and environmental value.
