CATL's CAIT Partners with Togg for Innovative Bedrock Chassis Development
Strategic Alliance between CAIT and Togg for Bedrock Chassis Development
On April 29, 2026, Contemporary Amperex Intelligent Technology (Shanghai) Limited (CAIT), the skateboard chassis division of CATL, signed a strategic alliance with the Turkish automotive brand Togg. This collaboration will focus on creating a new chassis platform for Togg's upcoming lineup of B-segment vehicles, marking a significant milestone as CAIT's first passenger vehicle project outside China.
The agreement was signed by key figures including Togg's CEO Gürcan Karakaş, CATL's Chief Customer Officer Libin Tan, and CAIT's CEO Hanbing Yang, with the presence of Togg Chairman Fuat Tosyali and CATL Chairman and CEO Robin Zeng as witnesses.
Joint Development for Advanced Electric Vehicles
Under the terms of the partnership, CAIT will leverage its Bedrock chassis technology and engineering expertise to collaborate closely with Togg in the development of the platform for three new models. These vehicles will be tailored to align with Togg’s product strategy, user expectations, and the mobility ecosystem they aim to establish. The Bedrock chassis will support the next generation of electric vehicles intended for both Turkish and European markets, with Togg playing a vital role in shaping the user experience, product requirements, and digital architecture. The first model from this collaboration is expected to start mass production in 2027.
Innovative Battery-Centric Chassis Design
The Bedrock chassis features an intelligent design centered around the battery, integrating essential components such as the battery, electric propulsion system, thermal management system, and chassis domain controller into a single platform. This consolidation allows for efficient handling of vehicle energy and motion control, essentially transforming the chassis into a mobile energy storage system.
CATL’s Chairman Robin Zeng described this partnership as a crucial step in the global expansion of the Bedrock chassis following its mass production launch in China. He noted the collaboration would serve as a reference project in the domain of integrated intelligent chassis, bolstering global partnerships, accelerating electrification, and supporting the transition to low-carbon mobility in emerging renewable energy markets.
Togg’s Vision for Integrated Mobility Solutions
Fuat Tosyalı, Chairman of Togg, emphasized that they view mobility not just as a product category but as a comprehensive concept encompassing technology and ecosystems. He noted their aim is to redefine partnerships from traditional supplier relationships into strategic alliances that generate shared value and build the future collaboratively. Togg intends to integrate itself into the entire development process, efficiently responding to user needs and fostering the development of the ecosystem within Turkey. Through these value-generating alliances, Togg aims to further enrich its ecosystem and customer experience by developing new solutions across various segments.
Adapting Bedrock for Global Markets
Designed for global implementation, the Bedrock chassis employ a localization model termed "1+1+1," combining a chassis technology platform with a unified industrial supply chain and localized operation of a national automotive brand. This approach allows for the design and production of electric vehicles that cater to local market needs, utilizing a common technological base. The collaboration with Togg represents an application of this model in Turkey, supporting the development of cars that align with regional consumer preferences while simultaneously strengthening the local electric vehicle ecosystem.
Expanding International Alliances
Having reached mass production in China in 2024, the Bedrock chassis stands as the first integrated intelligent chassis offered as an independent product to passenger vehicle brands. CAIT is actively expanding its collaboration regarding the Bedrock chassis across various regions, including Europe and Southeast Asia. This platform aims to assist emerging automotive markets in developing more competitive and efficient electric vehicle industries, while also supporting the global shift towards low-emission mobility.
