The Eniwan Project: A Step Towards Inclusivity in Sports
The Eniwan Project, an initiative founded with the mission of fostering an inclusive society where individuals with and without illnesses can coexist, has recently been selected as a beneficiary of the
KARADAKARA Grant Program, a collaborative effort between
Nike and the
Yomiuri Giants. This program aims to support children's sports, particularly focusing on empowering girls, and falls under the umbrella of Project C, which provides inclusive sports experiences.
Fostering Inclusivity with Yoga
At the core of Eniwan Project's mission is the belief that every individual deserves the chance to live freely, irrespective of their physical health. With this goal in mind,
inclusive yoga sessions are being offered to children in upper elementary to high school grades, along with their parents. These sessions will be led by certified instructors who have personal experiences with severe illnesses, bringing a unique, empathetic approach to the classes.
The workshops are designed to blend storytelling, dialogue, and inclusive yoga experiences, delivering two important messages: it's okay to be different, and your body is perfect just the way it is. Participants are encouraged to embrace their bodies, enjoy their abilities, and find joy in movement, all without the pressure to compete or compare.
Addressing the Needs of Children with Illnesses
The need for such programs stems from distressing feedback from parents of children with severe illnesses. Many children have been denied participation in physical activities due to their conditions, often without any alternative options being presented. Furthermore, concerns have been raised by educators who, despite their commitment to fostering enjoyment in physical activities, struggle with overwhelming workloads that prevent them from providing the necessary individual attention each child deserves. The Eniwan Project aims to bridge this gap by creating a safe and enjoyable sports environment for all children, addressing their varying physical and emotional needs.
How to Get Involved
Currently, the Eniwan Project is seeking schools, municipalities, companies, and event organizers interested in introducing these inclusive yoga experiences. They are open to tailoring their teachings and events to best fit the needs of those interested.
For those looking to incorporate the inclusive yoga experience, inquiries can be made through their dedicated page here:
